Advertising Stickers on Boosters

Just saw this on my eBay recommendations

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mtg-1x-SEALE ... 0227.m3827

No idea how to post pictures anymore but let me describe it :)

It is a sticker which covers the full front of a Ninth Edition Booster.

It looks official and it has a web address on it, www.unleashmagic.com

It has a corny title "Get your teeth into a FREE starter Game" and an even cornier picture of a large bosomed, corset wearing vampire about to get her teeth into the pictured Magic starter game "Fast Track box"

The pictures on the listing show a whole box full of these.

Any idea whether these came out of the factory like this or whether the shop keeper had to apply them once they had opened the boxes.

Just heard back from the seller, he doesn't know much about the history of the box as he bought it opened with all the boosters in it.

However the 'stickers' are more like cards which are held on by that glue which is used to stick samples into glossy magazines, so unlikely that it would have been applied by the shop keeper and more likely that it was done at the factory.

Which to me makes it an official variant as it is straight from the factory, however it is really just a normal booster with a piece of card glued on it.

The URL on the sticker/card unleashmagic.com is owned by Hasbro, and redirects to status.wizards.com. That adds credibility to it being an official thing.

Alexis has let me know that the picture on the card/sticker is "Garza Zol, Plague Queen" from Coldsnap (July 2006). Which has saved me a lot of effort looking.

Although using the official artwork is not a guarantee of it being legit, plenty of people steal artwork, it is an indication that this is an official WotC card.

Also, would that art have been a sneak preview for Cold Snap? If so, then it is even more unlikely that it was stolen artwork.

Ninth Edition was released in August 2005
Coldsnap was released in July 2006

That was an Only UK and Republic of Ireland situation that apparently happened in 2006:
