A little too worn for my collection but a 700 euro I am sure it will find a good home!

Apparently it is from Rome 2009!

It is up on magiccardmarket from Italy, shame the booster wasn't in better condition or you be reading about this in 'mail brag' next week!

I can't remember how you'd distinguish Alpha from Beta packs. The starts from Alpha are missing the barcode, but how would you know these are Alpha? Feeling the corners?

It looks pretty rough unfortunately. I'm pretty sure it's probably been searched but then again it really doesn't matter as long as you enjoy it.
BGS 9+ Alpha set 282/295 (97.29%) Avg 9.41
BGS 9.5+ Beta set 283/302 (93.71%) Avg 9.58
BGS 9.5+ Arabian set 35/92 (38.04%) Avg 9.62
BGS 9.5+ Antiquities set 82/100 (82%) Avg 9.64
BGS 9.5+ Legends set 279/310 (90.00%) Avg 9.61

As it is never to be opened the whole searching thing would not be too much of an issue as long as it didn't look obviously searched. This one has lots of corner damage and plenty of wear over the rest of the booster.

As a collector I want want in the best possibble condition so I passed on this.

The Date and Place are not that special, 'Rome 2009' the signature is nice but I have seen other things signed by Richard Garfield so they do exist.

Would a different date or place make it more collectible, does it even need the date or place?

I would always be looking to upgrade if this booster was in my collection, who knows, if I ever find an Alpha booster in good condition I might even try to get it signed (once I get a second one)

Personally I think it would be really really cool if it was from the 1994 Championship. Other then that I really don't think it matters.

I know a while back there were a few sealed starter decks on eBay from Jesper Myrfos that he got as part of his compensation for his art for the original set. He'd signed and dated them ('93)... that seemed pretty cool to me. Out of my price range, of course, but cool.

Take it easy,
Jared

I think I remember when these were being sold. If I'm not mistaken Jesper said that some of the Beta Starters had Alpha rares in them. Can anyone confirm this?

It's been confirmed that some leftover Alpha rares were put into Beta decks to save on production costs at the time, but I've not heard of any way to tell which decks those might have been.

Definitely true, and definitely no way to tell without opening them. ;)

Look, a bit of advice- if it's an old, semi transparent pack, assume it's been searched. It almost undoubtedly has been by someone along the way.

Especially if it's Fallen Empires. :-D

Sad but true!

We mocked a friend for buying a box of Fallen Empires, worst set ever. I guess it is a testament to the dynamic nature of magic that such a poor set could be worth searching boosters for!
