So I've seen starters of both revised and 4th that were upsidedown in their outer plastic wrap but they've always had the right pull color pull tab. In Limited and Unlimited the pull tab on starterss was clear, then gold in revised until around saga(?). It's possible that some of the Unlimited outermost plastic wrap was left over for the begining of the packaging for Revised starters which produced these

I've talked with the guy who's selling them and he seems like he's on the up and up. He's had them since Revised came out and bought boxes by the case back then. More than that, it appears that someone who bought one and opened it is trying to win the current one http://www.ebay.com/itm/262087547041?_t ... .S1.R1.TR5. There are buy-it-now ones for $100 less than is being offered for this one so either the top bidder is a collector of strange packs or the contents are special. Does anyone have any speculation as to whether these are special beyond the clear pull tab?

Interesting. Although it might not correlate with the tab colors, there are at least three different regular print variants of Revised:
Revised Edition - no black dot on the back
Revised Edition - black dot on the back
Revised Edition front cut (black dot on the back)

Hi Neuron,
Thanks for the link, I didn't know there was a black dot variant of revised! That's completely fascinating. I've gone through my money Revised cards and none are black dot variety, do you know what parts of the world they were shipped to? Most of my Revised was bought in Washington or New Mexico.
I got a little bit more info on the starters and they are definitely genuine and are of the black dot variant. What's interesting to me is that the black dot version is suspected to be a late printing of Revised but the clear outermost-pull-strip packaging is likely from Unlimited. I suspect that anyways because clear was used in Limited and Unlimited and the gold tear strips on starters were introduced with Revised and used for a few years before clear strips were used again. The only reason I can imagine for clear tear packaging having been used on a later Revised printing is if the printer had used up all of the gold striped ones and happened to have some clear ones left over. We'll probably never know for sure.

Re: Unusual starter of revised
Hi,
this has turned out to be a tricky puzzle. The reason why I think Revised without dot is older than with dot is that the back coloring of the first is looking more like Limited/Unlimited. It's a fact that Revised was stopped and later went into print a second time. Inbetween, there was the Summer print run. This could explain also the different packaging. However, everthing is possible.
From my (European) Revised stock it seems that dot - no dot is approx. 50-50, and the no-dot cards are often in worse condition. Considering that new sets in these days were shipped first within the USA, this also speaks for no-dot Revised being the early one, imho.

Re: Unusual starter of revised
According to this thread viewtopic.php?f=42&t=9629 (see comment about half way down) Ice Age started with a gold pull strip when they were prices $7.95, and switch to silver when the price went up to $8.95
Didn't Revised go through a similar price increase? Either way it is clear evidence of a later printing that didn't use a gold pull strip, so you can't assume the clear Revised one is older just because Limited/Unlimited were both clear.
There is another thread about Revised Starter peculiarities here viewtopic.php?f=6&t=8138
That post references a Crystal Keep page which is no longer active but can be seen here: https://web.archive.org/web/20051217084 ... evised.php which mentions that originally they had 2 rares, and later Starters had 3 rares. So how many did yours have? What is the retail price printed on the Starter?

Hi Members
This topic is also about Revised booster that is different:

To my knowledge, as I collect those different prices Starters, I never saw a 8.95$ (or else) Revised one.
