Foil Misprint Walking Sponge

Post by smcjones » Tue Aug 16, 2005 2:28 am

As opposed to the silver sign, there is a gold sign, signifying it as a rare card. Wanted to know how common this was, or how much it might be worth. I've had a lot of people check it out, and it clearly looks like it has the rare over the uncommon, even though it was harder to see on the the cards when they first came out with foil. Or is it just peculiar to Walking Sponge/Blue Uncommon Foils?

Any information about its value would be appreciated.

I'm sorry that no one got back to you sooner.
All foil Walking Sponges have that error. Most collectors don't consider this a worthy misprint, and certainly not a valuable one, since it has an occurance of 100%.
My username was lordsilver, but it displayed as secretgiant. I am the same user.

Hi Members

Sorry to dig up that old topic, but it looks like that the Foils Version of Walking Sponge and Rebuild have 2 variants, meaning that you can get both of them with the Rare symbol instead of Uncommon, and that a normal foil version exist also with the Uncommon Symbol as it should be. Can you please verify about this, and do you know if others cards were affected from Urza Legacy. Thanks for helping.

Hello Alexis,

I own one copy of both cards in ENG FOIL Urza's Legacy, and the symbol is definitely Silver.

I have gone through multiples of each card and never seen a gold-symbol one. I have never seen one in person ever. as far as I know.

Do you have both version of one of those cards for sure ?
For now i took this just as a color error from the scanner ?
I also checked several Blue UL UC Foils and never saw one myself .

Hi

I will give you an answer at least about the Rebuild when I will received one that I just bought that's supposed over the scan showing that it's one with the Rare Symbol instead of the Uncommon one, out of all the Foil rebuild that was the only one with the Rare Symbol. Trying to solve that mystery, next step will be Walking Sponge.

Hi Members

As I have received the 2 Foils Rebuild, I give you an answer, both of them have an Uncommon Symbol, but with a different light, they have a Rare Symbol, why is that, cause the pixel that are used in the symbol are a mix of grey and gold, and that by the scan that you use, you can either get a Rare or Uncommon version. So, I presume, the same thing applies for the Walking Sponge. Mystery is solved and now I have 2 Foil NM+/Mint Rebuild to sell and none to put in my Misprint binder :-D
