Hi Members.
I need your help, as no updates will took place on the website till this is solved.Since I get a new computer Hans(Misterfoilcard) complains that the quality of the scans on the website has changed. He send them to me by WinRAR as usual and when I add them on the website with the program that I use since the beginning, he told me that they did get compressed and that affects the quality. As, I'm very bad with computer technology, I try to be logical and understand what can go wrong. What are the differences with before:
I have a new computer way better then the old one
I use Vista instead of XP
The server is the same
The Program to add scans and info is the same.
Whenever I unzip winrar, then I save them into my Telechargement and whenever I add scans to the program this goes through Galerie Windows Photos. With Hans, we are trying to understand the problem on the card Evil Presents as an example:
http://www.magiclibrarities.net/180-169 ... tml#return
Does anyone has an idea of what can affect the quality of the scans and how to solve that?
Feel free to ask me any questions, I will try to provide answer the best I can.

Hi Patrick.
No they don't:
Still 508px × 700px

These are the info, I collect from the scan that I add and I check from the ones Listerfoilcard sent me, they are the same.

Propriétés de Evil Presents Big

Type du fichier Image JPEG
Emplacement C:\Users\alexis\Downloads\More_promo_scans\big
Taille 252ko 258 644 octets

If I go to Propriétés Détails I get:

Hauteur 700 pixels
Résolution horizontale 599 ppp

Hi Peter.
Hans/Misterfoilcard thinks that compare to the original that he sent me through WinRAR, the quality is not the same.

Can you send me the RAR file so I can see the original?
Evil Presents does not look any different in quality than the other Holiday promos.

Hi folks,

by accident I found some month before that all my scans on MagicLibrarity don't have the same quality as my original scans I send to Alexis.
Currently we're trying to solve the problem.
The following scan is my original scan of Evil Presents. So it is possible to compare both pictures.
If you zoom the pictures and compare both text boxes of the cards you will notice that the picture in the Librarity seems more compressed, the text has a lot more of the typical jpg artifacts.

This situations is not pleasant for me.
I spent a lot of time in scanning all of these promo cards, so I (and of course all others) would like to see all scans in best possible quality.
Somewhere in the process the images will be compressed a second time (as example, when saving the picture).
Unfortunately Alexis is not sufficient familiar with PC, so we have a little bit long-winded communication...

hoping that the problem can be solved...

That's the point! I asked Alexis to compare the size of my original scan and the scan on the server...

The file size is different. The original is 253k, the one on the site is only 85k. The current suspect is Vista's Windows Photo Gallery, which automatically compresses images. I can find a lot of people griping about it on various forums, but I can't find any solutions or settings to fix it. I plan to look when I get home (I don't have a copy of Vista here). The same behavior does not happen on XP, it is Vista only.

Sir; You are NOT alone in that opinion and it isn't just about picture compression. MS whole approach is that people are too dumb to run computers so they must let the programs do it for them.

Yes it does, but at least they are nice enough to keep a copy of the original for you... that is, until they automatically delete it :-O

With jpg's any re-saving at all will lose quality, regardless of the settings so what you really want to do is upload the files Hans is sending without re-saving them at all. I don't think this is possible with Windows Photo Gallery.

We should find another program for you to use for this step.

Hi Guys.
So, just let me know which program I need to add to my computer to prevent this.I just don't believe that Vista is ruling my computer without my will and agreement ](*,)
For your info, I have tried to upload scans with those 2:
Galerie Photos Windows Live
Internet Explorer
But the result is the same as Windows Photos Gallery

Internet Explorer should work, but Galerie may have already removed the original version. Try deleting the scans and then opening the RAR file again so you know they are the originals.
