I began buying and selling collections around then. I didn't, like other, smarter people, begin making a Web site for this, but I did scour the usenet groups.

One day I worked a deal to buy and then sell 72,000 cards. (Cards from Alpha through Revised.) I kept a chunk of power and 5,000 Alpha/beta cards as my "profit".

I continued to buy/sell collections and skim off the Alphas and Betas. Taking them instead of monitary profit at times.

*shrug* I would do deals with other dealers as well. I bought 500 Alpha lands from Collectmart.com (before he was collectmart.com), etc.

And, eventually, I bought cards off eBay. :-)

As for Alpha Island Sanctuarys - I decided to collect one card. I wanted it to be hard to find, but not too expensive. And I had to be able to verify the print run. I settled on a "rare card from Alpha." I liked the Island Sanctuary, and it has a text change from Alpha to Beta... so... I began collecting them.

My goal was 10% of the print run. I think I am 12%, or 11.5%, or something.

I DON'T have that numbers with any other Alpha rare. I may have 20-40 of some. But nothing near 10% or the print run.
