Is it normal that the original art is quite different from the illustration of the card?
For example the Bloodstained Mire in the art ( http://cgi.ebay.it/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie ... 0312149295 ) has lots of skulls that are not in the illustration and the colors are really really different with the illustration being a lot "darker" than the art.

It is very common for the art on the card to appear slightly different than the original in terms of color and cropping. It is less common for the art to have actual alteration, but it is not unheard of. This was discussed here once before when the "original" Hecatomb art was being sold

Looking at an actual Mire card, it looks like all the skulls were removed. This might have been to make the card appropriate for sale in China?

Hey Kalle,
I think 10qii is right on in his answer to your question. Personally, I have one original painting (Plated Spider) that has very different color than the card - painting is very red / lots of reddish tints, while the card is green. I have seen other changes like that over the years, so it isn't that uncommon. Just my $0.02 worth .
Take it easy,
Jared

Yes, the art is changed very often. Mire did originally have the skulls, which were digitally removed for the Chinese. Another example of a color change: Sylvan Yeti... originally a firey orange/red background, edited to a mellow green.. why you ask? Well, a firey orange/red background sure sounds like a red creature; not green.
This is just one of MANY.
