Purpose of Isbn data?

Post by Big Games Supply » Wed Mar 16, 2005 8:42 pm

It is interesting that this information is collected.  But, why?

This question is for all the codes collected: woc/isbn/anyothers.

Thank you

For one, sense of completeness. This info has never been formally documented anywhere publicly.

Two, it's useful in fishing out the existence of rare products. Let's say you "think" you have a complete run of something, but you look at the codes on your products and they say WOC5001,WOC5002,WOC5004. Obviously you are missing something. So now you'll look for it.

Hi James.
One of the multiple reasons is to know, what to look for, especially when it gets to Foreign language  ;)
An easy way not to mistake a S-Chinese Booster with a T-Chinese one or Japanese one for example.

Oh yeah that too. Also it's the only way to tell bb vs wb foreign rv or 4th without opening them.

This is not completely true, at least for Italian.

BB was referred to as "first edition" or "prima edizione" and contained exactly the same cards as English revised but with a black border and the correct Serendib Efreet art.

WB Revised corresponds to Italian "second edition" ("seconda edizione"). It also contains the cards from Revised but with a white border. Graphically these cards are similar to 4th edition though (they also share the 1995 copyright date), to the extent that the only way to distinguish them is through the dot above the "i"s in the card's name (if it contains any!)

Curiously, this implies Italian does not have a "third edition".

The names "prima edizione" and "seconda edizione" appear on both boxes and packs, which are otherwise identical.

I believe all this is also true (with the obvious name adjustments) for both French and German.

Easy, no ?  [smiley=smarty.gif] [smiley=goofy.gif]

Also thjere is product that is similiar looking in nature...ie demo or sampler packs given out.  They should have distinct ISBNs to signify different product.  So simply be looking at the ISBN on a product you can quickly tell what you have without guessing stuff.  Foreign languaged product also is a big part when you need to quickly tell what is different.

Thanks guys.  That clears up alot.

I have another question along the same lines.

Are we also keeping track of the new code, as of fifth dawn, to track which distributors are which codes?

i havent seen any similarity between codes from a distributor.

i would assume that packs codes are checked as they are boxed, then the boxes are checked as they are cased, and the cases are just assigned to a distributor when palleted.
IE, its all essentially random.
Never argue with an Idiot, they will drag you down to their level then beat you with experience.
