Well, the top of the page explains what 'jump the shark' means..
Basically when a TV show starts to get old/stale so they do something spectacular to get ratings back up and build interest in the show again. Â Fonzie jumped a shark on his motorcycle in that episode, hence the phrase.

So you are glad you decided not to collect Alt. 4th? You are going for a Summer set, right? Good luck on that one....

Regardless of the rarity, I think these are fun. if/when prices hopefully stabilize (hopefully for me anyway) I think I'll pick some up.

Re: StarCityGames.com Offers Alt 4th cards for Sal
Getting back onto the topic of Alt 4th...
I finally went through most of my 4th edition cards with a black light. It looks like somewhere along the way, I picked up 3 Alt 4th starter decks. Here's my thoughts on the cards I have.
At the time 4th was the current set, I was living in New Jersey. I don't think that I bought any starters outside of New Jersey (and I don't think I ever bought any after 5th edition came out). So, it looks like some Alt 4th made its way out to the East Coast - not just the Midwest, like some people have claimed.
While the Alt 4th make up only a small portion of my total 4th collection, they do make up about half of my basic lands - which means that half of the starters decks I bought were Alt 4th. This doesn't really say anything about how much Alt 4th might have been available in New Jersey, but I do wonder how much more I would have if I had bought more than 6 starter decks.
I actually kept most of my starter boxes at that time, but I can only find 3 of my 4th edition boxes and they all say Carta Mundi on the side, not US Playing Card Company.

Well, I went through the singles that I am selling at a local store and found 3 cards that were, well, reddish (not bluish like in the picture here). But they are most definately different, and the print pattern is a bit different, and they feel..slicker...
So I have 3..yippee..

Re: StarCityGames.com Offers Alt 4th cards for Sal
It really does seem like there is a lot out there...a lot more than we've been speculating. If people all over the world are finding it in their collections, I have the feeling that the first print run was not destroyed at all - it is starting to look like it got into the hands of a world-wide distributor. It's also possible that the company continued to print and sell these cards in the Cincinnati area after they were told to cease. There just seems to be waaaayyy too much anecdotal evidence that it's out there in significant quantity to think that it's even close to Summer in rarity.
I know it's been hard for people to complete their sets, but up until now, none of us has really had any incentive to check their collections. If the majority of us even has a handful of these mixed in with our collections, there's got to be a ton out there.

Re: StarCityGames.com Offers Alt 4th cards for Sal
Good point, squt.
As I have written pages before:
In my 'early years' I had NO contact with the international market at all. I only bought cards, packs and starters at my local store. So a big question for me is, how can I own 121 alternate 4th cards at these days? (I live in Germany) I started to buy collections in the US as I already knew about the issue. So what?
a) USPCC printed more than we expect
b) Some of these 'few' must have been shipped to Europe imidiately - not very likely.
Just my .02
Greetings
Jan
