Looks like one hell of a starting bid, though. Big mistake.

The key point to my mind is that he has not understood that the first auction:
- was for a unique item -> This is the second one to be auctioned so the attractiveness is far lower
- degenerated in a unique ego-cash-fight between Rarity members / Jim / the mysterious eBaySniper Group and Jltoolman -> This is unlikely to happen again (especially as cf. first point)

This auction gives a completely unserious expression, who would bid with such amounts when there's 10 lines of text and the payment method is a money order, with no mention of the possibility to at least meet in a public place or bank to complete the transaction.
Also, nothing mentioned about any means to proove the authenticity. For all we know, it could be printouts in those toploaders or even magic cards on top of harry potter cards.
Oh well, I guess the guy gets his "punishment" when the featured plus listing bill comes ;)

i suppose its always possible he'll change the min. bid price when he sees that no ones bidded on it...
or else he might try to sell them individually...

does it cost anything to him to have an auction like this up running even if he doesnt sell anything?

Yes it will cost him, and I haven't sold anything on eBay in a long time, but the way it used to work is the higher the starting bid the more he pays.does it cost anything to him to have an auction like this up running even if he doesnt sell anything?
Also the buy it now option costs money.

Personally, I think the biggest mistake being made here is where it is listed. Under Harry Potter only, not under Magic, so there will be a lot less people seeing it. The seller has really reduced his possible selling market. I too agree that this auction is being done poorly.http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 24296&rd=1

If you look at the feedback for the seller (and what items were bought) I don't know if the seller the person who posted here. Â He may have gotten someone to post the auction for him - maybe a relative.
Also, I thought he had originally said that all of the cards had HP backs, not that 2 "mana cards" had proper Magic backs.
Not that I have the kind of money that is being asked, but if I were to seriously consider buying these, I'd want to see the cards personally first.

Since when have preconstructed decks lands on top and on bottom when you open the sealed deck?
I have opened a lot till today and lands were sorted together everytime.
Sounds like he keeps 2 cards or already traded 2 cards away and replaced them.

A foil land would have a normal back because it must be from a different print sheet.
As for the "second" land.. he probably sold it or traded it or is saving it for himself.
Yes this is "unprofessional", yes this is not in the right category, yes there are few details... but to be honest... the people who spend $8,000 on one auction, for trading cards, are the type of people that don't "stumble" on this searching ebay.... if you are in the market to buy such an item... then chances are, that you have heard about it, such as this forum. I do not take credit away from the seller at all. Yes, he made some mistakes... but he has an item that sold for an incredible amount, to elite buyers.... he could have posted it on "eBay Motors" and probably still sell it.
His opening bid is high... my guess is that someone will grab it towards the end, or... no one will bid, and wait for a reissuing at a lower price.... unless he lowers it in this auction.
This man has only $9.99 to lose, the price of the pre-con, and maybe $3 or $4 dollars of initial eBay fees. He could post this thing EVERYWHERE and be full of crap.. and still make a nice profit! This is very different from someone auctioning somethign like a beta set, something that takes a long time and lots of money to attain and collect. This man, or his relative bought one pack of cards, and thus, is not very serious, and thus, does not have the best auction... still, there is demand for those cards.

Re: Harry Potter-backed Max Attack deck now on Eba
while i agree with you that the category probably doesn't matter, i suspect that the owner of these cards will refuse to sell for anything else other than $8,000. i think, in his mind, these cards are worth the exact same amount as the previous deck, and that anything less than $13,000 is a loss. i think he further considers himself generious for his willingness to accept a "loss" as high as $5,000. of course, i think such an attitude is rather naive, but... whatever. it's his deck and his money, i suppose.
