Charlie Brown- this one's new to me

Post by fvzappa » Sun Mar 28, 2004 11:57 am

Okay, so we've all been aquainted with the Charlie Brown story, right?

http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=mtgcom/arcana/252

The thing is, I came across a foriegn one (green), with the same problem. It does not have the same cartoon bit as shown on the link, it shows a girl next to a car. Do any of you have any non-English Charlie Brown inked cards? This is new to me.

As of now, I own the blue & red medallion (English), as well as the green (foriegn). I also assume this is it?

Charlie Brown is on EVERY Tempest Card.... the reason that some are more noticable than others is that the medallions have a single-color background, which makes it easier to see. And of course... some of the first medallions printed had more Charlie Brown ink than the last.

All it was, was Charlie Brown inking on the magic presses that hadn't been cleaned. All cards were affected, and slowly the Charlie Brown residue left. I have seen many medallions with very clean charlie brown and a few with none.

What language? I think it is German.

Smaragdmedaillon

Deine grunen Zauberspruche kosten 1 weniger.

I cannot be sure, but I assume that is German. Someone please inform me if they can.

Well, cool, we've narrowed down the language. I was always under the impression that this was just a mistake in English until I saw this one. Are any of you aware of any that are of a different language?

On a side note, I have yet to personally see the English green medallion like this. I find that a bit odd...

Well, this is new to me as well. I have not seen any German Tempest cards featuring this oddity yet.

Hi there

I can confirm the following on german version of the blue and green:

I can see the Charlie Brown like head on the blue one and some text beneath the medaillon itself (on the art).

With the green one, there is some face-like thing in the down left corner of the card-art, but no Charlie Brown.

EB - who doesn't own a scanner...

Since i've read of those Charlies i'm always searching for those.

Until now i have found ..uhm .. 2  ;D

They are both German Emerald Medallions (not a great wonder when you're livin' in Germany  :-X).

You can hardly see the ink on the first one (the only thing you can see is the "charlie head" thats shown on the picture from the arcana)

On the second one are many pictures to see:

On the upper right (looks like a face)
On the upper left (the "charlie")
and many things in the lower left corner i really can't identify :)

But same Problem as EB... no scanner, no cam at the moment  :-/

P.S.: I couldn't spot one single German Sapphire Medallion yet  :-/

A friend of mine claims to have found a German Sapphire & will have it in my hands this week, so I'll hopefully know more about this soon.

I now have a German Sapphire w/ Charlie on it too. I guess both the German and English cards were printed at essentially the same time?

http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=mtgcom/arcana/252 This link shows a closeup of the English green & blue. My German green does not have this, it has a woman facing a car on the left side. They also do not mention the red one, I own one that has a box-like item printed on the center, & is most visable under the left wing.

I do not yet own a English green one, nor do I have a German red one (I assume exists). Unfortunatly, scanning the cards so you can see them is a problem.
