Strangest misprint I've seen in a long time

Post by squt » Fri Feb 25, 2005 12:47 am

A nice chap in Germany saw my web site, and offered to send me a strange card he had.  It's a Chinese Torment FOIL pull under, and there is a thin bright red line forming a square around the text box square.  It's very prominent.  I'll post a jpg of it soon on my web site, but in the mean time, does anyone else out there have a foil Chinese pull under?  I am pretty sure it's T-Chinese and not S-Chinese, and I think there's a lot of chinese torment out there.  I'm anxious to know if it's a 1-time mistake, or an error on every printing of the card.  It's about the strangest non-picture misprint I've ever seen on a card.

Whoops!  Waste Away.  Same difference : )

The Jushi is an exceptional misprint, but it's an understandable one.  I don't have any clue how this razor-thin red box would get overlaid onto a card.

Here's a link to where you can see a scan of this very, very strange card...

I'd love to hear back form someone with a normal one!

it looks to me like it has been done with a ruler and a red fineliner (leaves no imprint ;)  )

Dunno for sure, IF it's for real, it is cool.

I agree, but the kid who sent it to me said he saw it come out of a pack, and it does look like it is imbedded in the card, below the foil.  And he sent it to me for free because he liked my site, so he's not pointing it out ot rip anyone off.

BUT...it's so unusual, that I'd love to see if someone else had a 'normal' one.  There's so much Chinese TO floating around, I'm surprised that nobody else on this list would have one...

If i had to make a guess, the box delimits the text space, for typing out the card's text. They possibly forgot to take out the 'line' delimiting the box.

seriously, I'm surprised no one has seen one before. I'll ask around and see if I can turn one of them.

I have seen delimiting marks on other "set up" cards, but they looked hand drawn and the lines were much thicker.    Also, they usually had some sort of code on them.    I think I have a photo of them somewhere, If I find it I'll show it, so long as someone can post it.  This one looks too clean, as if they dropped in the different text and artwork on the card that was marked, rather than on a clean template.
Where have all the Magic sticker sets gone?

I have a sealed booster box of Chinese Torment, but I'm not sure whether it's T-Chinese or S-Chinese.

I anyone can help me distinguish them and if my box turns out to be T-Chinese, I might try opening some booster packs  :)

Apart from the red box, the scan also seems quite a bit miscolored towards purple/red to me... is the actual card like that ?

That one is T-Chinese.  I've seen a non-foil one, and it didn't have that line for sure.   But I don't think I've seen a foil one.

ende73, you can probably tell if your box is traditional or simplified by the SKU numbers listed on this page: http://www.magiclibrary.net/sets-odyssey-block.html

I think it's just the scan that makes it look reddish.  I have the card in hand now, and it looks normal (except for the red line!)

I guess I'll have to find a dealer in Hong Kong who sells singles and see if I can buy another one.

Look for 'Mr.Volrath' on MOTL. He is from Hong Kong, and i believe he is a dealer.
