This is a tidbit about authenticating cards. Apologies if it's old news. It was new to me (someone mentioned it on fb); so I figured I should give it a go and share it here.
The tongue-in-cheek recommendation has always been to tear the card whose authenticity you doubt into pieces so that you can see the blue layer (well, or not). This inexpensive magnifying glass/hand-held microscope

lets you actually see the blue layer (well, or not, my German Sol Ring seems to be fake ).

You can find also a black layer with some old MTG Editions or Expansions (especially from cards Made by Shepard Poorman).BillBo wrote: ↑Sun Jul 02, 2017 3:47 amThis is a tidbit about authenticating cards. Newer Chinese fakes also have the layer.

The layer may or may not be blue on the Chinese fakes. A lot of them are black instead. Typically the blue ones are a little different color of blue, sort of purplish.
