I have always been a big collector of Crazy Clown tokens. Look at what happened when the market was flooded by reprints of dubious origin. $100 tokens were suddenly worth $10 or less, and prices for these tokens have never recovered. I have always considered miscuts and most misprints to be inferior...

When you are cutting or trimming wood, especially veneers (and stacks of cards behave like a continuous stack of veneers), you usually get a cleaner cut on the top surface than the back surface. In fact, best practice for veneers is multiple scores of the veneer to prevent tearout. This is usually f...

If we assume that this is from a scrap sheet, can we also assume that it is hand cut? Not necessarily. Every process step requires a setup, and that includes the cutting stages. And for cutting, you want to use the messed up color setup sheets. Most scrap has to be shredded at some point, and cutti...

Given the overprint, it has to be some sort of double print. Heavy ink is not unusual. Ink is applied to cards in a multi-stage process. 1. The ink is applied to an embossed roll or plate. To ensure complete coverage, the ink is usually flooded over the surface. 2. Excess ink is removed, typically u...

You are literally grinding away material. I'm sorry, but I think that's not true. You can see a burr on the most cards in one direction (changes between editons). That can only occur if the cards are punched. There are also foil cards which have the cardboard cut away but the foil layer is still sq...

A large stack of cards is like a log or a board. If you have ever seen a wood lathe (or even a router) bevel an edge of a piece of wood, you have seen the kind of process that rounds edges on cards. You are literally grinding away material. If you don't set the router guide correctly, you end up wit...

The first batch of misprints look like they are the proper size for cards, so I would expect the sheet was used to get the sheet guides - which controls sheet feed the way a laser or ink jet printer guide controls paper feed - set up correctly. They may have then been run through the corner trimmer....

That explanation is consistent with the answers I provided over the years. I do like the diagram. The one item I would like to add. I have not seen the cards that were the source of this response. However, I would be surprised to see multiples of the same card being both miscut and ending up in the ...
