How does it help to know if a card was real if you've destroyed it with chemicals or fire?

I just opened a Darksteel box that had those distinctive white scratches through the name box in every other pack in the left two columns, for 12 total cards messed up  ??? A most peculiar pattern.

The only foreign sets I have seen APs for are Italian and Portuguese Ice Age and Chinese 4th. I've never heard of Italian Legends proofs. There are definitely no proofs of Unlimited (only CE proofs of these cards exist) nor of Arabian Nights.

Why would those cards be less common inPortuguese Ice Age?

I would like one of those Dragons. How much is that puzzle? I see a 500Y there, but is that just the starting bid? Can somebody who reads Japanese tell me what's going on there?

T&T has some such for sale. What relation their prices bear to the "true" value I'll leave to your own judgment, but they were certainly far more than a standard pack.
