given the number of such poker decks I have seen (I personaly own one), I'd be surprise that there were only 100 given out... but I may be wrong.sib51 wrote:I,know they're rare ( ~100 in the world) and it"s hard to find...
But I never saw one to sell/trade on this forum.
Is it because nobody has one to sell or nobody is looking for it ?

I think there were more than 100 but I don't want to rely on my memory. Alexis probably has a better source for the info on the web page.
Some time ago I offered some to board members but only a couple people took me up on them. I then sold several on "you know where".
There is one in my friends hoard so if anyone wants one PM me with an offer.

I agree. My guess is that there were many hundreds made at a minimum.effai wrote:given the number of such poker decks I have seen (I personaly own one), I'd be surprise that there were only 100 given out... but I may be wrong.sib51 wrote:I,know they're rare ( ~100 in the world) and it"s hard to find...

Legend has it that they were distributed to a few early investors at an annual WOTC meeting. Supposedly they were a "surprise" to WOTC from Carta Mundi. While they might have been a surprise, my guess is that there were enough to give one to every investor (with the annual report), and likely there were enough left over to give to employees, big wholesalers and maybe even key retailers, perhaps for tournament prizes. It wouldn't surprise me if there were enough left over to give out in gift bags to key visitors at Corporate Headquarters (the ultimate corporate "chachki" ).
Having said this, the Carta Mundi poker decks are the rarest, by far, of the Magic decks. And yet they are the only one whose price has dropped in the last 5 years. They don't show up often on Ebay. But when they do, and are clearly marked, depending upon the number of competitors, they have been selling in the $50 to $75 range, or about $10 to $25 above the Yaquinto poker decks.
The last sets sold on Ebay were 3 sets sold individually by one seller (low feedback, lives near WOTC headquarters). 2 sold at $50 each, while the third sold for $25.

hammr7 is pretty much on track, as he usually is. I finally got a hold of Peter and he did some head scratching to try and refresh both his and my memories.
While at CM he casually mentioned to someone that poker decks with Magic backs would be an interesting novelty. Not long after that CM gave (sent?) him a box of about 200 decks. They were given out to employees on an "as desired" basis. There was no organized effort to distribute them though. Of course, they were given to "targets of opportunity" that presented themselves but there were some left over. That is the box I ended up with, of which most are gone now. That would make them quite rare in the over all scheme of things.
The prices mentioned are quite normal in that there are a few people that realize their uniqueness and value them accordingly. But, the market is not large. I think $50-75 is reasonable.
I would be interested in trading for one of the "red/blue" sets if anyone has an extra.
