Question about rarity of 8th edition test prints

Post by paris » Mon Sep 08, 2014 6:28 am

At http://www.magiclibrarities.net/719-rar ... index.html it says:

"*ALTERNATE FRAME 8TH EDITION WITH UNGLUED SYMBOL TEST PRINTS*
They printed 4 of each card: 2 Non-foil (Brightly and Darkly) and 2 different foil versions: Brightly with nonfoil textbox/picture and Darkly with foil all over the card. The Unglued symbol was used for this serie and all the artists are on the left side.
...
48 different cards with 2 variations. 96 cards +14 extra cards for a total of 110 cards."

which implies that for the Foil Bright version of any particular card, there should only be 1.

However, on eBay right now there are two different Foil 8th edition test print Adarkar wastes for sale. Both appear to be the Bright version:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1x-FOIL-8th-Edi ... 1033007169

http://www.ebay.com/itm/MTG-Magic-8th-E ... 1515397982

If there should only be 1 of these, then how can 2 be for sale on eBay?

Hi

They don't look the same to me, so either, there's a brightly one and a darkly one. But, when the info was added in the index, it was years ago, and I know for a fact more owners of these, so looks like there's much more printing of those test prints in the wild now, especially that the price has been multiplied by 5 to 8 or more now for some of the cards.

The breakdown in the index still applies for how they were printed on a sheet, but at that time, only 1 sheet (cut up, by wotc or owner, not sure) was known. As is usual with legitimate test prints, a handful inevitably exist. It just takes time (sometimes a great deal), before they surface.

As Alexis has mentioned, I'm sure the current pricing of these test prints is enough to shake a few more loose from the test print tree.
