so Ive been out of magic for awhile, is german the new trend or something?

No. I've got other things I'm Japanese foiling, just doing something different for my edh deck. Some of the German foils are still quite hard to find (at least they were for me).

its like the secondary trend. Maybe 3rd if you're counting Russian, but think more are into German just Russian can be considered "more pimp." I just hate to tier those things cause to each their own, but some things are obviously more popular then others.

Just wondering if you prefer the Tormod's Crypt from The Dark over either foil version (TS or FNM)?

I like original for aesthetic purposes. The FNM one has neat artwork but the FNM/DCI stamps drive me up the walls.
