Do you have a creature-themed deck?

Post by squt » Wed Oct 31, 2007 2:56 am

I recently broke out some of my old casual decks (i play almost exclusively limited now), and had some fun getting my ass stomped by one of my new coworkers who had an EDH deck.

My casual deck was a 300-card "church" deck that was mostly angels, pimped out with foils and artist autographs. It was designed for casual group play, and doesn't do well in duels since it doesn't do anything until turn 5, but i still had fun playing it.

I've got a similar dragon deck, a Squirrel deck, and one I call the "Ridiculous Animals" deck with stuff like Phelldegrif and Horned Cheetah.

Does anyone else make decks that are creature-themed? I know with Lorwyn out now, most standard decks are going to be tribal. I'm more interested to hear if you have a favorite deck that you made around your favorite creature (for example, I hope Pickle has a dragon deck!).

I have an olde goblin deck that I keep around because it was the first deck I ever put together with any thought. It was last modified with Fallen Empires, so it's old and beat now, and doesn't perform very well against modern decks, but I still like to play it. It's unsleeved and kept in an old beta starter box.

I have a homeless person deck. It includes cards such as scavanger folk and rag man. I keep it in a beat up UNL starter deck.

I made a Fungus deck when Fallen Empires came out (which in essence became a Saproling deck as the turns progressed). I would try to bore my opponent's into conceding while I increased the number of counters on each Fungus every upkeep (made even more ridiculous by Fungal Bloom). The purpose of the deck was "obviously" to amass a 3-digit army of Saprolings before attacking.

The deck got shelved in '95 (due to its supreme suckiness), and I haven't played it since, but oh I remember the faces when I placed my bucket o' glass counters onto the table before a match. :-\'

ZOMBIES!

Obviously it has its weaknesses, but it's fun beating down with ginourmous Soulless Ones.

Just need to find some shiny ones...

I have a casual Bear deck in which all the cards aside from the land are either bears or have bears in the artwork.

creepy dirty old people:
6 rag man
1 brine hag

2 elvish farmer
1 taoist hermit
4 goblin raiders (portal 2 art)

people down on their luck:
3 scavenger folk (dark)
2 folk of an-havva (julie Baroh art)
1 kobolds of kher keep

homeless-related cards:
1 carrier pigeons
4 hoodwink
7 lonely sandbar
2 barren moor

+ various basic lands

Oh man Cereal, you should swap Rat Catcher for 2 of those Rag Men. Don't forget about Rats.
