What is your average monthly budget for Magic ?

Post by magic-belgium » Sun Sep 30, 2007 12:02 pm

Hello there,

I always wondered how much a collector could spend in Magic each month ?

Since this site is dedicated to MTG only, it could be fun to have an idea.

Average age was also a good information to have !

I took €1 = $1.30 even though it is higher now.

Pat

Market research

Post by equi-nox76 » Mon Oct 01, 2007 9:46 am

Hi Pat,

is dit een market research? LOL

I spend about 100-200 Euro each month for Magic, which is way to high IMO, trying to get the last missing mint promo's for the playsets and then
try to reduce it to about 50 Euro / month. 8-|

In fact I just wanted to know if I am "reasonable", excessive...

It's always good to know what other collectors do.

I registered here as I am a "lonely" collector not having any friends collecting CCGs.

Thanks Chris !

Hm, were do you live in Belgium, I have some friends living in Brussels playing Magic. They sometimes drop in (it's just 2 hours with the car from Brussels to Cologne) for a Magic-Night (legacy only) :-P
Btw I have been introduced to Magic by a Belgian

Well, Magic cards were made in Belgium for quite a long time right ?

That could be cool to go to Köln !

I don't play MTG yet, but I am learning little by little. I'd love to attend a FNM in Brussels one day.

Right, a friend of mine worked there for a while (in the packaging department). Don't know exactly if he walked off with something  but he always had the nicest cards :-\' I got my absolutely mint extra playset of Force of Will from him (for 5 Euro or something like that :-D )

Actually i can spend also over 200 euro/month because my actual goal is complete my sets collection and complete my promos collection.

But luckly there is some month i can save some money .... :-)

My hope is, ended collections, to buy only new sets and promo, so the expense would be fixated costant in the year.

I've started to play 2000 with Invasion and to collect effectively 2001 with Odyssey.

My target is a Playset of Set (one must be foil for sets that are foil too) and i try to have sets in different language. For example Future Sight i have in Italian, French, Russian and i'm trying to find a foil set in English and so ..

It's hard to find complete sets in particular language as Japanese or Portuguese or T-Chinese but i don't despair ... :-)

I do. I recently even took a second job to cover my expenses. I am afraid I am hooked on it. (Fortunately that's not an addiction that makes you die of a cancer).

Sometimes I wonder if I'm not freak. But I saw a report recently on television, for auctions of pieces of the Concorde. Someone paid $28000 just for a piece of it (I think it was the black box).

Or another one getting a signed copy (first edition ever) of Tintin in the Soviet Union for $50000. So I feel relieved afterwards...

That's why I offered the poll here. :-)

Non exactly. I collect four set of every set : one set must be foil, the others must be normal but in different language ...

Four foil sets + four normal sets is very expensive ... my name is Marco and not Bill Gates, the richest man in the world .... :-)

I understand now.

That must be a good amount of cards for each new expansion.

Question to all : how do you store your cards ? 9 pocket pages or cardboard boxes ?
