Ninth Edition Release Details (not the foil)

Post by rick21n » Wed Jun 08, 2005 2:46 am

Just a couple details to share. Our shop got the info packet this week.

Ninth Edition Released Friday July 29th.  Pre-Release should be 16th and 17th.

Ninth Edition Release Tournament
July 29, 30, 31, 2005

Modified Swiss (Sealed [5Pack] or Draft [3Pack])

Each Release Kit includes
One Sleeve Basic Land
Four (4) Life Counters
Thirty-Two (32) Release Foils
Ten (10) Deck Boxes

The extra life-counter is a "Door Prize"

The deck boxes are a "New Player Promotion".  When any current player brings a new player to the event both will receive one deck boxes.

Not much interesting except for the deck boxes.

I don't think it has been mentioned here yet, but the Force of Nature is also going to be available in an oversized edition too - available in the Fat Pack. Plus, a good look at the colored dividers.

Also apparently they're doing boxtoppers again, 13 this time:

Wonder if the Force of Nature is counted as one of the thirteen.

Anyone else noticed that WOTC has changed the card format again? Instead of the release symbol or "10th anniversary" symbol as the foil symbol background in the text box, they now have "Magic the Gathering".

This is *sort of* in keeping with the 8th edition release - back then, they didnt use the set symbol then, and it isnt the 10th anniversary anymore, so they did something else unique. In other words, 9th, like 8th, didn't have its own set symbol on the release cards, and it obviously isnt still the 10th anniversary.

Yes, it seems like with the core set releases they're all about celebrating the game itself, whereas with the expansion releases they're just celebrating the new set. Or something corny like that. :P
