Splendid Genesis valuation

Hi

I may be purchasing a Splendid Genesis from someone local. It is badly off-centered but in nice condition other than that. It used to be PCa graded and was supposedly all 9s but centering was a 5

I was wondering if anyone knew what this would be worth.

Is it the one on eBay?

It was listed at 4k for a big while and no one bought it. Wouldn't personally pay over 4k actually.

Because of the centering issues I wouldn't pay more then $2k.

From some people of serious reputation, I heard that this Splendid Genesis might not be the real thing, so better make sure before buying.

I always thought it odd that the one on ebay was so off-center, yet out of the 20-25 I have personally seen, none of them were off-centered like that.

Does anyone have, or recall seeing, another one so off-center?

The centering issue leads me to believe that something "may not be right" with that card.

Why did they say it might not be the real thing? Surely more than just the centering issue.

I was thinking the same thing, being there were only a couple sheets made and never myself ever seeing an off-center one (I've seen about 20 myself).
This feels wrong to me, whom ever is selling it better be related to Richard Garfield or something to make up for it..

A lot of these are slightly off-centre, but not to the same extent. Of course, that sheet could have been cut in a way to make this possible. The best thing would be to post a scan here.

The seller says they're the third owner. Said it was a vendor before them, and they traded a lot for it (at a GP). I definitely believe his story, but who knows if the card was real before the vendor got a hold of it. It was PSA graded, but they're notoriously useless.

Thank you for your opinions, though. There seems to be enough doubt that I'll pass on it.
