Tempest Skewed and Miscut Commons, Looking for Info
Hey all! If any of you browse reddit you might have seen me post these there. Got some helpful responses there but was hoping for a bit more information here.
Here's the scans:
Recently on Star City I found a card with a similar cropping problem:
and I found these on ebay last night with the same issue, but a much smaller angle on the second cut.
<removed image because it was huge>
I was hoping that someone here could tell me how this type of miscut happens? Also wondering if anyone has seen others from this sheet, assuming this is even the kind of problem that affects a whole sheet? Thanks a bunch!

I have seen preconstructed decks, most were entirely miscut, but one had just ten cards (+ one destroyed filler) with that error. It was the bottom row in that case.
Here my thoughts how such miscuts could be formed:
1. Sheet becomes cut horizontically row by row.
2. One or more rows become misplaced.
3. Cards are cut into squares.
4. Cards are rounded.

Tempest did have both "made in US" and "made in Belgium" printings. I would be able to tell which these are from if I were holding them in my hand, but if you can provide a high-res scan of the backside, I might be able to tell from that.

Possibly, 5th edition also had both printings.cataclysm80 wrote:Could you do the same with 5th edition cards? I have a couple of those like this.

Usually i'm comparing card quality, which is hard to do with just a scan.

Did English only have both printings or also other languages?
I noticed that some 5th cards have dark black borders on the back and some are more like dark grey. Can that be the difference?
I read somewhere that 6th Edition had both printings, too?

I cannot say for certain, but my gut tells me that only English has a large enough print run to require both US and Belgium printings, whereas other languages are either printed in Belgium OR US, depending on logistics for card distribution afterwards.Neuron wrote:berkumps wrote:Possibly, 5th edition also had both printings.cataclysm80 wrote:Could you do the same with 5th edition cards? I will check my 5th Ed, Tempest, and Urza's Saga cards from opened starters when I'm home to see if I can explain the differences between them.
