Hand painted alterations

Post by Beoulve » Sun Jul 18, 2010 1:46 am

Inspired by Yawg07, I decided to try and alter some cards.

I started out with one Portal Island, and ended up doing all four from the set! I used regular acrylic paint and made it more fluid with retarder. Retarder also retards the drying process and therefore makes the paint easier to mix. Took me somewhere between 5 and 6 hours.

Let me know what you think :P

Those are beautiful. Can I request that you do the rest of the land?

@yawg07
Thank you! I'm a big fan of your altered cards :D

@l0qii
Thank you very much! I have some free time today, so I might try to do some of the other lands.

Did the Mountains from Portal. Took longer than I expected.

These look very nice indeed, congrats =D>

I'm an extremely poor artist, but I'll try giving a simple suggestion anyway: shouldn't you apply some easily-removable tape on the borders of the card while painting, so that once you remove it you have straight edges?

@ende73

Thank you :)

I probably should use masking tape. There's two reasons why I didn'tuse it:
1. I'm lazy :P
2. I'm afraid that when I remove the tape some of the paint might peel of, especially where I've painted in many layers.

Once I get some fluid acrylic paint I will probably use masking tape. I'm very new to this, so I'm just experimenting at the moment. I've been browsing several forums and have learned a lot that I might apply to future alterations.

Oh, and here's a Stone Rain I did a couple of days ago:

You definitely have the talent :D But yes, use tape. I use matte finish Scotch tape. It wont stick to the card and it is thin.
A few other guys/gals I know use the blue painters tap, it works well also.

Keep it up! Those mountains are even better than the islands.
You should post these over on MTGSalvation, you are certainly better than a lot of the other beginners.
