Misprinted Fallen Empires (Printed on both sides)

Post by berkumps » Mon Oct 22, 2007 5:58 pm

So I've been watching ebay user PerfectFury selling these Fallen Empires double prints for quite some time now, and I'm wondering what people think of their rarity. Each card has sold for on average $100+ per card, with the more popular ones fetching more. I know for a fact, that he has sold 2 copies of the same Combat Medic, and I'm pretty sure there were only 1 of any card printed on a sheet, so in order for the same Combat Medic picture to be on the back of 2 cards, there had to be at least 2 sheets affected like this. So that would mean at least 121x2 = 242 of these types of misprints (2 sets of commons).

I'm also interested to see how many this seller actually has. They have claimed (since they began selling them) that they only have a couple, but I'm guessing they have alot more than they are letting on (trying to ensure their rare perception). Don't get me wrong, if two sheets were affected like this, these are still pretty damn rare (with only 2 of any one card).

Who's the lucky winner ?

Too bad the seller did not make any good scan of them.

I have quite a few of these Fallen Empires cards (both from PerfectFury and other sources). However, I also have a few that have two fronts printed on one side, and a normal Magic back. I also have some cards from other sets, such as a double-sided one (like PerfectFury's), but it is blank on the other side -- this is actually an Ashes to Ashes (5th - like the ones jconstantine17 is selling); at least three Mercadian Masques double prints (with normal Magic backs) and a foreign double print (I can't recall what it is right now), with an upside-down normal Magic back. I have another handful of these, but can't remember what they are since they are stored in my safe depoist box. If someone is interested in cataloging these, I can provide a detailed list.

I've had a few of these for years, including all variations of cards mentioned by sk1. I have scans, too.

Duplicates are possible, as each card was on a sheet more than once. A batch of commons were printed with this error, probably one sheet. This guy was probably lucky enough to open a few packs like this (there could be 6 in a pack), & is now selling them. Unfortunatly, $100+ is what I see them go for consistantly.

Scans of mine-

MMasques front (has normal back)-

FEmpires common printed over uncommon (normal back)-

FEmpires (like the auction ones)-

sk1, I would be interested in knowing what you have.

Thanks Alex for the IE magic word (see Parisian weather is not as worse as Belgian one !). I am browsing here with Firefox. Works with IE.

Looking at the FE common sheet, it can be seen that the 6th row from top/bottom should have the same card printed on its backside, while all others have the card that is mirror image about the 6th row printed on their backside. For example, the last auction to end was Elven Fortress (Poole) with Delif's Cone on frontside, and as can be seen on the sheet, these two cards are 2nd from the top/bottom in the 5th column.

As for the misprints with commons printed on uncommons, you can just overlay one sheet on the other to see which combinations are possible (for example, fvzappa's misprint has Dwarven Armorer and Spore Cloud, both cards being in the 6th row, 3rd column)

Ah, good. I know some people are afraid of fraudulent cards (claiming printers would be able to do this.

So now, can I find a Mark Poole & Ron Spencer printed on the same card? Hmmmmm...

Interesting topic Berkumps =D>

This is my current population of double-printed cards:

Blank back (5th edition Uncommon)

Image

Normal back (2 Fallen Empires cards printed on front)

Image

Single Fallen Empires (Basal Thrull) card on the back, upside-down

Image

French Onslaught, Legions and Scourge cards (from precon). Back is normal MTG

Back of this card is an upside-down Unlimited Plateau

Actually I'm not sure he sold the same card twice. I think it was simply the same card re-listed.

It'd be interesting to ask the seller.

I can't remember the item description, but it's possible that he used the same picture for combat medic (which is what I looked at), but changed the item description such that the card he was selling was actually a different pic combat medic. Those two listings are long since done, so I can't check ebay for completed listings unfortunately. Oh well, I'll keep my eye out for duplicates since I'm sure he'll be selling more.
