This is a playset of a French 8th Edtion Artifact, each card printed in a slightly different way:

In 8th Editon and Mirrodin artifact cards, the background of mana symbols and tap symbols were grey. Here, the two at the left are beige like in the most other sets:
They are not just offcolor as the different printing pattern shows. Maybe they came from different products?
Note that all four copies show a dot pattern like in ABU cards, not a circle pattern like in the most cases. Some cards in Mirrodin block show the variation grey-beige like above, but also dot pattern-circle pattern.
I checked some sets for the dot pattern:
In mana cost and textbox (also in colored cards):
ABU: grey
T-Chinese and Korean Tempest: some grey, some beige
T-Chinese and Korean Exodus: grey
T-Chinese and Korean Urza's Saga: some grey, some beige
T-Chinese Urza's Legacy: grey
S-Chinese 5th Edition: grey
T-Chinese 6th Edition: grey
T-Chinese Mercadian Masques: grey
Just in mana cost:
Portal S- and T-Chinese: some beige, some grey
Portal Second Age French: grey
Portal Three Kingdoms S-Chinese: grey
Just in Textbox:
Japanese Mercadian Masques foil: grey
8th Edtiion: some beige, some grey
8th Edition foil: grey
Mirrodin Block different languages: grey-beige, dot-circle
Mirrodin foil: grey
I'm sure there are more.
Printing Variations in 8th Edition and Mirrodin Block, etc.

As you show the very famous French 8Th Edition Rod of Ruin Misprint, I'll checked mine, the variations comes from 2 different products:
Boosters and Preconstructed Deck (Heavy Hitters).
Over the different Edition or Expansion from MTG, most of the time, there's a difference between card from booster and card from preconstructed theme decks, they are made on different sheets.
HiNeuron wrote:Hi Alexis,
I would be interested which version of the Rods came from where.
Booster vs. theme decks seems reasonable. Here we have four versions. In the sets section I find other products: Demogame Booster, Sampler Pack, Core Game 2 Player Starter Set. Not sure if they contained any Rod of Ruins.

No Rod of Ruin in the Demo Booster or Sampler 8Th Edition, but there was a Rod of Ruin in the Advanced Booster of the Core Game 2 Player Starter Set.
