Alternate Art Mirage Skulking Ghost
And by altered, I mean "slightly" different. I'm sure most are aware of this variation for English Mirage Skulking Ghost:
What I find interesting, is that for the foreign versions, only one picture seems to be represented for a specific language (unlike English). Now, I don't have a Portuguese one, so I'm unsure as to which category this falls into.
If anyone with some foreign versions can confirm the existence of the opposite picture I've shown above, that would be a great help. I want to hazard a guess and say only English had this printing variation (until someone shows me otherwise).
At first I thought maybe this variation was due to printings in the US and in Belgium, as English had printings from both, however all of the sealed foreign Mirage starters I own (French, German, Italian, Japanese) say printed in Belgium, and since French has a different art than the other 3 languages, the printing location doesn't seem to explain the reason for the differing artworks.

That green-blue variation was a part of the entire set, or at least a part of the commons and basic lands. I don't know if it was the result of a color that changed hue over time, or just a bad color match.
I have a number of cards including a stash of basic lands somewhere. They show exactly the same color difference. The islands with the bluer coloration are some of my favorites. They were not all that common, representing only a few percent of the thousands of cards I went through.

The color variation is not the only difference between them, the artwork is actually shifted upwards in the right card relative to the left. Look at the artist sig in the pic, it's in a different location. This is what I meant by "alternate art".

A couple years ago Hans (Mister Foilcard) requested a set of these from me, which I sent him. He, in turn sent me a German one which is just like the German one you have pictured.
As for the English Color difference all the cards that are positioned higher are one color and all the others are the other color. This hints at them always being that color and not being faded. Also, when I dug the ones out for Hans they were in a place where the sun has not shined for many years--NO NO I don't mean THAT place, I mean in a box that has been closed from a few months after they were printed and the colors were clearly different.

To the best of my knowledge, the Ghost is the only card with such image cropping differences in Mirage.tryst wrote:Interesting!
Is the Ghost the only card with variations in the set?
Or are there others?

It looks cropped a bit (like the Jamuraan Lion). that's my 2 cents.berkumps wrote:The color variation is not the only difference between them, the artwork is actually shifted upwards in the right card relative to the left. According to this site
http://www.wizards.com/magic/tcg/produc ... _themedeck
skulking ghost is in the Preconstructed Deck "Nightterrors"
Maybe this explains the different printings ?

The Mirage precons were only on MTGO when Mirage got re-released online, there were no physical ones back in the day.mmgun wrote:According to this site
