Fake (?) filler 012

Post by Jeppe » Sat Sep 01, 2007 11:05 am

Hello everyone!

I've recently acquired a filler 012 (all white front, mtg back), however, I suspect that it is a fake, seeing it is very easy to 'make' such a filler by removing the foil layer off a regular foil card. So, my question is: Is there any (relatively easy) way to tell if it is a real filler or an ex-foil card?

Thanks in advance!

an ex foil card will probally have a damaged corner

if you look a the surface and hold it in the light, a filler will have a clear and neat front. An ex foil will have some stripes.

I have been nabbed by this before. I could tell as when I tilted the card in the light, I could see a distinct border surrounding the entire card. Plus, I saw remnants of japanese writing in the middle of the card, so whoever made my fake filler used a japanese foil.

As for the one I have that I "think" is real, the front is pretty clean (all white) with no semblance of a border or existing writing. I'm not sure if it's possible to fake them so that you cannot see an existing border, but one thing I am going to check the next time I am at school is use a microscope to measure the card thickness of the one that I know is a fake, and the one that I think isn't, and see how they compare. Will also compare these to a standard foil card thickness.

Well, I compared it with a genuine filler 003 I own - and there was a large difference in reflectabaility (is that even a word?) between the two. The genuine one reflected light much better. I didn't notice any borders or bad corners on the (fake?) filler 012 though, just the black border from the backside shining throught.

I do not know if I should keep the filler 012 or get a refund from the seller - I paid ~14$ for it. :-k

Just take a foil from Future sight and peel the foil layer off and compare it. The layer comes quite easily of from future sight

On a fake one you can see some glue on the white face ot the card.
A Real one is clean and clear.

Return your card as soon as possible
