Box print run codes T XXXX XXX XX:XX

Post by l0qii » Sun Aug 24, 2014 7:11 pm

For a while now boxes have been printed with a code on the back in the format T XXXX XXX XX:XX where all the X's are numbers. I'd like to figure out what these numbers mean, and what we can read from them. For example, can we tell if a box is from a prerelease run or not?

I'd like to compile a list of numbers associated with sets and languages and see what patterns emerge.

I have Russian Theros Booster Boxes with codes:
T 3197 261 18:37
T 3197 261 18:55
and one that is blank

Japanese Avacyn Restored:
T 2293 261 14:41
T 2031 1 60 (different format)

I have more, but it will take some time to go through them

I like this project, but sadly do not have boxes to add to your info.
In auto restoration, I've found that paperwork which goes with the car as it's assembled, contains data on production line, date, and time of manufacture, typically in code such as Julian date codes or 100 hour clocks. Food for thought.

Japanese Khans of Tarkir don't have this number. Now it just has this on the side

I have noticed that some boosters also have a white rectangle on the back with a code of some sort printed on it. The numbers vary and they have at last two different sizes.

I have not checked recently, the ones I really noticed were Saviours of Kamigawa.

I thought this might be useful to someone for something, no idea what though. Might tie in with whatever is on the box but i don't buy boxes to check on this.

today I learned boxes can have identical numbers, so this is not a unique identifier, at least not down to a single box.

i've also learned that the last 2 digits are incremental and can have values at least 01-59. If anyone sees numbers higher than that please let me know
