Timeshifted is Special rarity, same as Masterpiece.
Where do we draw the line between what to document here, and what to leave for people to look up on Gatherer?

Tav
A good question Tav, My take on it is that we document everything on here that is not someplace else and/or obscure and little know or likely to be lost/forgotten. There have been some really valuable things posted here (many by you), that may only exist here and nowhere else. Take the Tip/token spreadsheet. Probably totally worthless information in the big picture of the legacy of MTG and hardly worth the many hours of effort but it exists nowhere else. Some of the great research on test proofs, printing, history and Mfg. information. unique to this website.

These ultra rare cards need all the research and documentation we can give them. Leave the Gatherer for rules and such. These babies will be a challenge to scan and document but well worth it in the long run--certainly more important than my token speradsheets.

If the spoiled digital files are big enough, I would take these. They don't show reflections at all.

Another option to get good scans of foils is to scan at 0°, 45° and 90° and combine the non-reflecting parts of each. This works on normal foil finishes, maybe also on FTVs.

Hi

Yes, Orientating the cards in a different way might work on some Foil Promos, but the FTV are a no way (Even the last SDC are FTV foiling).

The solution is using an halogen scanner (Much more expensive) instead of a LED scanner (Unfortunately all the new scanners are LED)
Otherwise we get this (Done by a scanning expert and with Adobe job on top)

The firs 2 FTV sets were done back in the years with an Halogen scanner, and Hans told me, he went to hell scanning and processing those (Hours and hours of job), but the result is amazing. Example:

Hi Alexis,

I see, because of the problem with new scanners I recently bought a new (=unused) old one. In addition, I put the card into a perfect size sleeve. Result:

This scan isn't overworked at all. It's not perfect as Hans' work, but I find it acceptable and it took me less than 10 min to create.

We've been doing some experimenting on this and it turns out that we've reached the point where phone photos are a reasonable substitute for scans of difficult cards like FTV foils -- even a few years ago scans were the only way to get a solid high-res photo, but these days with 12MP cameras on regular phones we can get an image with equivalent resolution and far less color banding just by snapping a pic in diffuse light.

Which leads me to the question: does anyone here have access to full sets of any FTVs from Exiled onwards? If so we can look at replacing the existing scanned images here with ones based on photos instead.

Hi Charlequin

I wish I could help, but I own only the first 2 sets of FTV (My Rarities's collection is up to 2010) and Hans did the scanning part of them back in the years, I still miss FTV Relics (Very low priority).

The scans that I used on the website are the ones from Wizards.com, of course, there's no zoom function, as I didn't replace them (I find the quality of FTV foils a disaster, not because of the people working on them but because of the foiling process). So the ones to eventually upgraded are:
From the Vault: Relics
From the Vault: Legends
From the Vault: Realms
From the Vault: Twenty
From the Vault: Annihilation
From the Vault: Angels
From the Vault: Lore

Few Judge Gift Cards from 2009 and 2015 also have banding (I believe that maybe a new foil process was used)
-Flooded Strand
-Polluted Delta
-Damnation
-Wasteland

http://www.magiclibrarities.net/891-rar ... -2015.html

Convention and Various Promos SDCC 2016
Same I used the scans from Wizards.com and I added the zoom function (result is not good)
http://www.magiclibrarities.net/966-rar ... -2016.html

Masterpiece Series cards will fall probably in same the category of very hard to scan:
http://www.magiclibrarities.net/1006-ra ... tions.html

I wish a solution could be found to scan properly those "FTV foiling" cards. But as always, first, you need the cards, second, having the appropriate scanner or camera, third, willing to do the work properly and it takes time and precision, fourth processing them with Adobe or else. On my part, the list of "To do" on the website is a 24/7. The number of Promos is a more and more, for the year 2016, a new record is beaten, for Prererelease in English, we are at 262...
