Magic has had a reverse impact on what used to be the larger segment of the Magic community--the part time player, full time job holder, comitted family member.
Another way to look at it is this: The part time player, full time job holder, comitted family member and people with limited time are able to involve themselves with just one set per year and go to GP's and events (and actually be competitive) where they don't have to invest time/$$$/energy into another 3 sets!

That is what I said and one of the causes of that was as I mentioned. That cause is now being expanded.

Sigh... The same old corporate mind set, which I see as a rather skewed view of the magic community as it started and as it has evolved. The people I am talking about that have faded away from the community never gave a rats a.. about if a card could be played in this or that sanctioned format and, at one time, this was the bulk of sales. But, because of that mind set their potential contribution to the bottom line was never optimized and we lost them. What I am talking about are those people that show up at pre-releases and are never seen again until the next pre-release. That number gets smaller by the year.

More cards faster is not the answer for that segment of the community.

Folks,

Just a quick reminder: WOTC has been putting out four sets a year for over five years:

2003 - 8th edition
2004 - Unhinged
2005 - 9th Edition
2006 - Coldsnap
2007 - 10th Edition
2008 - Eventide

Also, starting with Shards of Alara, set sizes shrank:

I'm pretty excited about Magic 2010.

My bad, Yawg, I missed them as links too even though you plainly stated it.

I'm excited about the flavor being more "accessible". I can't wait until I can picture 2 grizzly bears mauling a serra angel instead of having to comprehend 4 wandering ones eating an air elemental...which looks wierd...
