Japanese Mirrodin Token Figures

Post by macone » Tue Sep 09, 2003 9:51 pm

Hi, members.

Hobby Japan start distributing a common card and a handbill of Mirrodin for promotion.

Common card:Leonine Scimitar

Handbill(front and back)
http://homepage3.nifty.com/macone/pics/ ... _front.jpg
http://homepage3.nifty.com/macone/pics/ ... l_back.jpg

And this handbill mentions about Hobby Japan Mirrodin token figures.
It says,
"Collect 9 barcode part of Japanese Mirrodin booster pack,
and send them to Hobby Japan with an envelope for sending back.
Then you can get one Mirrodin's token figure.
20,000 first arrivals get it!

Token figures are 5 kinds;
Soldier,
Beast,
Myr,
?? (Never seen this creature type),
... and one Secret. "

Ok, the front of that handbill has such incredible artwork!  Just seeing the 2004 Arena lands alone makes me really wonder about how cool Mirrodin card artwork will be.

Why is it that people in the US never seem to get any of this cool stuff.  I feel left out.

Not true.  The foil Serra Angels were US-release only.  It is also much easier to get promotional cards here.  If it weren't for the internet/eBay, many of our overseas bretheren would have a most difficult time collecting.   Now that being said, I often wonder how/why Hobbytown Japan  gets to do what that do.  WOTC does not give out lattitude in their licensing of that sort just to anyone.  I wonder why no US-based distributor is allowed to do what they do.

I am interested in getting those tokens too.  Is there any way to get them besides pestering you to get 90 copies for the entire forum?

I stand corrected on the US promo debate.

Does anyone have any idea what these things are?  Are they figures like Hobby Japan has made before?  Follow link for example:

http://www.cardhaus.com/cgi-local/shop3 ... icture.htm

Or are they cards or something different.  I'd think if they say figures they'll be most like the above.

dry_cereal: 90 copies?  :o
It needs 9 x 5 x 90 = 4050 packs' barcode.
I'm not such a rich man.   :P

bigfatkitty: Yes, that's the same kind of figure tokens Hobby Japan made before.
They are 5 kinds;
Zombie 2/2,
Elephant 3/3,
Centaur 3/3,
Dragon 5/5,
Wurm 6/6.

Ralph: Do you think they are qualified for "Counters and Tokens" section ?

macone: I think they are but including them will not be easy. They can not be scanned but have to be photographed. I will add this to my to-do list as a future enhancement. Thank you for letting us know what is going on in Japan. I am sure there are many more Japanese Magic promotional items out there than we are currently aware of.

How much are the tokens these days.   I would love to get some if you can still get them relatively cheap.  I can paypal up front if needed.  The tokens are cool.

It's the only place I've ever seen them.  Maybe you can find a Japanese member of our forum to help you get them direct from Hobby Japan.

My feeling is that they know how Japan is not an open country. Japanese business sticks within Japan.

There are very very few Japanese people here or on MOTL or eBay.

Another example is the Power generation suppliers industries (boilers, reheaters, desulfurization systems, etc. or the railway industry. It is absolutely impossible for a non-Japanese supplier to sell in Japan.

So I think that the oly way for WotC to penetrate the Japanese market was to provide a licence with a lot of freedom to a Japanese supplier. They could not have created WotC Japan.
Anyway, leaving latitude to Hobby Japan is not a problem as they will always remains within Japan boundaries. They refuse to sell abroad as most of Japanese sites also do.

In another Country, let's say France for instance, it would be different. If we had cool stuff here, shops would gathered them all and resell them high to US people.

Just my 0.02
Regards,
Eric.
