Buying a Box when you are in Europe
Dear,
I live in Europe (Belgium) and here the boxes are around 110 EUR (around 140 $) in cheaper shops.
Now I have found a place where it is 90 EUR (120 $)
But I have found sites in US where they ask less than 80$ for a box.
So it would save me a lot of money if I could get them from the US.
Does anyone know how much it is for shipping, do I need to pay any kind of rate, fee, ...
How legal is it to ask someone to take a full display in his suitcase when he travels from US to Belgium for instance?
Any ideas or info on this plz?
Thx a lot!

Re: Buying a Box when you are in Europe
last time i bought 2 boxes in the us shipping was 19.99dollars.
i paid 75 dollars per box aka 149,99 plus the 19,99 shipping.
still much cheaper then here in europe ;)

Re: Buying a Box when you are in Europe
Shipping one box is around $20-25.
Shipping 2 boxes only adds ~$5 ...
However, you will potentially face two issues:
1- Custom taxes. You may qualify for custom taxes with that kind of heavy shipping, it can add up to 25% to the total (well, at least in France)
2- WotC has forbidden US retailers to sell sealed products abroad to prevent European people from purcvhasing cheap in the US. Yes, they suck.

Re: Buying a Box when you are in Europe
So it is not legal for me (I am from Belgium) to buy boxes in the US?
If it is possible, what is the best place to do this?
And how? How do I transfer money to the US without getting into trouble?
Is there someone who is not noob in this area?
Because I am :$ :P

Re: Buying a Box when you are in Europe
Thx for the answers...
But I would like to see it more legally, meaning : buying in an "online shop", rather than asking someone on ebay if he can ship boosterboxes to Belgium and arrange everything via mail...
At the moment this is the cheapest I have found : http://www.wholesalegaming.com/
Does anyone know it?
Are there better solutions?
Thx again for your quick and nice to read replies ;)

Re: Buying a Box when you are in Europe
it is legal my option.
evertime a new set is released this seller has several auctions running.
also for older sets then, just wait until it is the right time.
The problem with online shops and magic boxes is, that it is ILLEGAL to ship to countries outside the US.
large shops tend to follow the rules.
WOTC prohibits sellers because boxes are much cheaper in the US and therefore force the buyer to buy boxes in their own country.

Re: Buying a Box when you are in Europe
Iwe done alot of trading between the us and Denmark.
In Eu the postal system is basicly the same all over. Exept from some larger countries that have a old fashion on. Italy, portugal etc.
So if u live in Belgium, Norway or Denmark doesn`t make any diffrence. Same custom system with almost the same tax.
The way to buy boxed are from ebay or know a american user you know to buy it and you paypal him for the shipping and box price. And there are alot who will help you, just try to ask some you traded with before.
The prices at the momment are $60 for 8th,(foil bird) and $75 for all the other new boxed, mirrodin, champions etc.
If you pay more then you are getting ripped off. Some stores in the use charges 20-25 more for there boxes than on ebay.
Shipping is Critical. In the teori its best to pack as small packages as posible. one box in each package. But this is expensive. The normal way is to pack 2-4 boxes.
But if u don`t care about getting the box just the boosters then it would be smart to take a large usps envelope. And pack that with 15-20 boosters and the shipping will be like $6-8 and much less likely to be taken aside in customs.
Finalyl you can take flags of the country origin and place outside on the package or envelops, loads of em, draw just girly stuff etc. The old grandma works. Just slap it on.
hopefully some one can use this to something, i hate to see some of u guys to get charges a load off at the customs, iwe tried it and it can wreck you entire day. hehe
Peace

Re: Buying a Box when you are in Europe
Thx man!
I have found some places where they ask around 77 $ for a Box and shipping to Europe is about 35 $ for 4/6 boxes...
I think I'll go with that ;)
Now I only need to get VISA and open a paypal account with that and I am ready...
Ps: Are there known sellers on eBay who are just perfect for this kind of requests?

Re: Buying a Box when you are in Europe
You might want to ask the seller to put a lower value on the custom form, too. It isn't 100% legal ::) ::) ::) but it'll save you *a lot* of money from taxes, if you have to pay customs fees.
For example, even on items worth several hundred dollars, I ask the seller to put $50 on the custom form... And so far I haven't had to pay customs for anything MTG related ;)
Only once with a friend, we almost had to pay because the seller stated a value even *higher* than the auction price, but with a clever phonecall and a hmmmmm slightly altered email printout mailed to the customs, the charges were dropped ::) 8)

Re: Buying a Box when you are in Europe
When ever I ship things to germany and england, I am always asked to put $50.00 for customs. It sucks that you have to be dishonest to avoid needless fees.
