faded cards

Post by l0qii » Thu Jun 03, 2004 1:02 am

Does anyone know how well the ink on magic cards holds up under sustained exposure to sunlight? Does it eventually fade to blue like many inks do? I know the booster boxes do, but that's really unrelated. I've never had the patience to leave a card on a window for months to find out, heh. Maybe I should run an experiment?

Jamesbond (member here) has a sun-faded revised Fork.
It's simply no longer red but Pink

I can ask for his card and publish a scan if you want.
Please help me finish my Boosters collection

I admit, I put a dragon whelp from 4th and one from RV in the window to fade for a few months. I have had them down for a few weeks now though, I'll take a pic of them ;D

EDIT:
Pic is here: http://www.angelfire.com/droid/bahapoe/IMG_0286.JPG
Faded cards on top with regular version below for comparison ;)
EDIT2: You probably have to paste it into your browser to see it... Stupid angelfire :P

One time I bought a pack of Fallen Empires and the topmost card in the pack looked sun-altered. I think the pack had been sitting facing outward in the store display for a long time, and the wrappers were a bit translucent back then, so if it sat there for years and years it could actually fade inside the pack. And none of the other cards in the pack were abnormal. It was a Ruins of Trokair, don't think I still have it but I could look if anyone's incredibly interested.

Red cards become pink.
Green cards become a kind of turquoise.
According to Jamesbond, other colors do not fade, or very few.
