Authenticity of this signature

Post by soccerpro21 » Sat Aug 06, 2005 6:00 pm

Hi, I just completed a trade in which I sent first in which I was supposed to receive a signed Spanish Meddling Mage.
I just want to know if the signature looks real, as I really have no idea what it should look like. I originally posted this on the MOTL boards, but someone told me that here might be a better place to ask.

Here's the image:

Thanks in advance for any help.

If that's supposed to be the artist's (Chris Moeller's) signature, it's completely fake. Chris's sig looks nothing like that:

The Chris Moeller signature is on the left.

EDIT: Oops! That does look like it could be an authentic Chris Pikula signature. Silly me! You can see another example on the Meddling Mage in this article:

If you're not aware, Chris Pikula was the Invitational winner who designed the card and whose image appears in the art.

Thanks a lot for clearing that up flatmatt. Now I just have to ask, what is something like this worth?

Well I'm sure we'll get some opinions on each side, but basically some people think it ruins the card, others love it. For me, it would increase the card's value somewhat, but there are collectors who wouldn't take it if you paid them (exaggerated, of course  ). There's no real consistent value change an artist or pro player signature makes, it's just whatever you can find someone to pay for it.

I only assign value to artist sigs, for me that would ruin a card.
