Grading of Magic cards

most people don't touch upon the nuances of vibrance, gloss, and cutting.  I see a 'mint' card to be a card that is a freak of nature.  The humidity was right, the ink was new, the cutters were especially sharp, everything went perfect.  

without those characteristics, the next things I look for are if it has that 'fresh from pack' feel.  The almost staticy smoothness.  Also, if the card still smells like the pack, it can't be too far from NM.

As everyone can see, opinons differ on this subject which is why it will be hard to devise a uniform grading system.
