New filler?

Post by fvzappa » Tue Dec 28, 2004 9:44 pm

Ironicly, for about 6 months now I have had a filler card that is not on the site. I always just assumed it was, mostly because I'm lazy. But, this is what it looks like:

As a note, all of those smudges & white spots are on the penny sleeve & hard case, they show up remarkably well on solid black. The card is actually in quite nice shape. But this one has a STAR on the bottom left, like the old school foils. The person I got it from was clueless, & told me he or a freind got it out of a pack of the Urza's block, and they were genuinely disappointed they could not play with it.

For a second there I thought it was the Black Filler I just traded you but thankfully it wasn't.  It is very cool and seems very possible since that was the time when they were starting to do foils.

Is it just me, or can you clearly make out the difference between the black border and the blackness inside?

Here's a lightened version just so you can see it better.

if you look reaal closely at it, you can see that there is still a name on it (top left), further on, you can see very, very vaquely some of the artwork.

Whew, it looks awfully dirty!

Anyhow, here are a few answers to some questions that have been asked of me-

NO, it does not resemble, in any way, the Laquatus OR Beast of Burden on the site (although I need them for my collection).

NO, there does not appear to be any border on it or any supposed card.

NO, I do not beleive it is doctored in any way, althogh it may be possible, I guess. I feel at this point I'm fairly good at spotting fakes, but how I got it & the look of the card shows no evidence of tampering. Remember, I got it from a kid who was genuinely disappointed he did not get a "rare" card in his pack...

No, I don't own any others, sorry, keeping it...

I would suggest those who think they are good at making fakes get out their chemicals & see what they can fabricate. I will answer any questions anyone has to the best of my ability.

Can you clean your scanner and scan the card outside of a sleeve?  (Be careful).  I think that the phantom letters AXIOS sees are dirt, and a good scan would take care of this....

Okay, I did a bit of cleaning, & made it a 600 DPI scan instead of 400. A few specs remain, but is much improved. The stuff in the middle left is a smear from cleaning, notice you will not see it in the above scans. I simply cannot get a perfect scan, the solid black shows everything!

This is of the star area-

Hope this helps.

i never suggested it was a fake, i only said it might be a misprint like the dark laquatas.

i keep looking at the picture, but i still see the letters.
can you scan a zoomed in version of the part where the cards name should be?
i also keep seeing the black borders

I definately see the borders.  Are the 'letters' you see like two parts of a crescent?  Like a bit of the top of a 'C' and a bit of the top of an 'R' (or P, B, D, etc) a bit to the right?

Okay, here's the top left part too, an enlarged version. Personally, I don't see anything, esp. when I have it in person.

Anything else, just hollar.
