Life Size Statues from WotC Store on eBay

Post by l0qii » Tue Jan 04, 2005 9:05 pm

Prodigal Sorcerer and "Sorceress" statues are being auctioned off. They say they are each 1 of only 6 copies. Anyone have any other info on stuff like this left over from stores? Was it all sent back to WotC when the stores closed? There was a store here in Danbury, CT but I never heard of any of the stuff from it being available to the public.

It says they only ship within the US, but I'd be willing to proxy bid for anyone overseas that can afford one of these and is interested. Shipping would be very expensive. It says $200 just to crate it up, on top of shipping charges, plus I assume there are some Customs hoops to jump through.

i tryed to buy the trained orgg statue from their store here in Woodfeild mall and they said they couldn't. i jokingly offered 1000.00 and they still would not sell. They had know idea where they were going and who to contact to find out. I left my phone # with them and they never called me. ;D good thing what would i do with a 5 foot trained orgg [smiley=laugh.gif]

The costs to produce that the seller describes are pretty insane ... why would you ever dump that much money into display pieces at a retail outlet?  Though I suppose the margin on WotC product in a WotC store is pretty insane ... no way it costs $60 to print, wrap, and box a box, when you order a million at a time.

I think that the answer to this question should be obvious ... your house would never be targetted during halloween again!

The costs can be quite reasonable, if they only produced about a couple dozen (rather than a million), since there was only about a couple 2 dozen Wizards stores.  It would have only been a specialty order to create these - they would not have been mass produced; and it is the mass production that keeps costs down.

The statues were auctioned off (I guess not on eBay) when the stores closed. The sculptor, Kim, is a good friend of mine. (I have some great pictures of her in the claws of the Shivan Dragon.)

Each one has to be cast, smoothed, and painted one at a time. They're not cheap to make.

Check out here for some basic information on the Shivan Dragon:

I have no idea how anyone would be able to store this (were they able to somehow acquire it).

Somehow, I think I expected it to be larger.
