3-D Dakmor Sorceress

Post by mintcollector » Sat Nov 20, 2004 12:51 am

Well Ben Cordell came through doing my 3-D Dakmor Sorceress I comissioned him on.  Here is an over all shot of the whole card from a front view:

Here is a close up near the top (notice the detail of the foliage in 3D:

Here is an angle shot showing the card side and also the raised text box:

I specifically had Ben use red ochre stock as spacing material as it adds to the card depth.

I am very impressed at the quality of his work and am looking to organize my next set of commisions through him.  If anyone is interested in getting any work done themselves Ben can be reached at:

Benr.Cordell@Virgin.Net

Since Ben lives in England and he had never done foreign commissions before we worked out a batering deal where I paid him in packs of Champions of Kamigawa for his work.  this took care of questions concerning currency exchange.

I know, I had to pull them and resize them better to fit.  Should be fixed now.

Here was Ben's original email he sent me:
Hi Mike

Thanks for your email and interest in my 3D cards.

I do take commisions and I could produce a 3D card from Dakmor Sorceress.  It is not ideal as the picture has limited levels but I think it is ok. Normally I use 6 to 7 cards to produce a 3D image but I can only use the natural perpspective in the artwork and this card may have less than seven separate levels.  If you provide me with 8 cards I will obviously return any that I do not use. I would need you to provide the cards but the colour of the card edge is immaterial but if you provide mixed cards you will need to specify whether you want white or black for the visible top layer.  I would suggest black as the more succesful effect.  The colour of the spacer material is irrelevant as it cannot be seen when viewed in its case from the front  but I could colour the edges of the spacer board black (or some other specified colour) if you wished.

I can produce a card in a day so once you have provided the cards and paid for the commision I can send the card to you within a week.  I usually charge about £30 sterling for a card ( $ 54).  Although I do require money in advance to carry out a commisssion, if you were unhappy with the result, a refund would be available on return of the card. (This has never happened). I have only just put my cards on the Internet and I have not previously dealt with foreign commissions. I think that at the moment the best method of payment would be to send unopened booster packs to the equivalent value as this will avoid currency exchange charges/complications. I believe that booster packs in the USA are $3.50 each which would be 16 booster packs for this commission.
If the number of cards required for this project is prohibitive, you could send card photocopies in place of some cards but personally I do not think that this would look quite as good as there could be some colour variation.

Thanks a lot for your enquiry - I hope to hear from you again soon.

Ben Cordell
In answer to your second question, I sent Ben 8, but he only used 7 to construct the 3D cards and returned the 8th with the 3D card.

I know squt was talking about getting one and i'll be meeting him in person tomorrow at the Unhinged release we are attending.  He will get the luxury of seeing the card in person.

very nice. i just tried this the other day with a razor/scalpel type cutting set i found at the dollar store and it turned out terrible. that is a very reasonable "price" also. especially if you get hooked up on packs or are a dealer.

Just use revised for the lower levels - no one would know - you'd only need one summer hurricane :)
