MTG Comics

Post by Midtown » Mon Jul 19, 2004 4:13 am

Hi everyone,

Sorry to have been absent for ages but I've had so much uni work on, MTG has taken a back seat. Anyway on to why I need to return to this holyest of MTG sites. Recently I came into owning afew of the old Armada Magic The Gathering comics. I have been looking around the web for info about them but can find little apart from illustrators names etc. Can anyone forward me infomation on said comics, either directly here or web addresses where I can look, so I can pursue my new interest.

Additionally I am looking to buy some more, so if any of you have any you want to sell or trade let me know. I want to collect the full set twice (ie: Any that are sealed I will need two copies of each - one open to read, and one left sealed to collect.)

So far I have accuired the following MTG Armada comics:

1) Magic the gathering: Fallen Empires 1 (Sealed)

2) Magic the gathering: Fallen Empires 2 (sealed)

3) Magic the gathering: Nightmare

4) Magic the gathering: Ice Age issue 3 (sealed)

5) Magic the gathering: Homelands (sealed x 2)

6) Magic the gathering: Shadow Mage #4 (Sealed)

If you can help me out please do, though I am particually intersted in more information at the moment.

Thanks

Ralph Lewis (Midtown)

PS: Can anyone tell me which card comes with the homelands comic of is it just random. If it is random which set is the card from:

I have  full set of open and most them in sealed.  I have some extra copies of some of the open comics.  I don't think I have any spares that are sealed though.  I'll check tonight and drop you a message.

If you are going to collect the full set, you also need to get copies of the complilation issues (called TPB or Trade Paper Backs in the industry).  This is where they take all the individual issues and compile them into a single larger issue.  This was done for Fallen Empires, Ice Ages (two volumes if I remember right), Gerrard's Quest, Shadow Mage series, and possibly the Urza/Mishra War series.  I'll have to check my full list tonight.

Does this mean that the print runs for these particular cards are larger than most Homelands cards? This would seems strange especially as they are all rares. Of is it just the case that the cards were just surplus supply from the standard print runs of Homelands cards and thus included with the comics?

Also can people please confirm the following list as complete (only for Armada NOT dark Horse):

Magic : The Gathering : Antiquities War
Magic : The Gathering : Arabian Nights
Magic : The Gathering : Convocations
Magic : The Gathering : Elder Dragons
Magic : The Gathering : Fallen Angel
Magic : The Gathering : Fallen Empires
Magic : The Gathering : Homelands 1995
Magic : The Gathering : Legend Of Jedit Ojanen
Magic : The Gathering : Nightmare
Magic : The Gathering : Shandalar
Magic : The Gathering : The Shadow Mage
Magic : The Gathering : Wayfarer
Magic : The Gathering : Ice Age

Can anyone also please let me know how many differing comics were featured in each set (ie: Magic : The Gathering : Antiquities War was a set of 4 seperate comics):

Does anyone also know which of the above were featured in the 1995 released "Magic : The Gathering Collection", or am I getting these confused with the dark horse releases?

Thanks for your help.

These are the extras I have, all open with no original inserts (if any).  Not all pristine, but great for reading and checking out artwork.

Elder Dragons 1 & 2
Urza Mishra War 1 & 2
Serra Angel
Ice Age 1 & 2 (These probably show the most wear)
Gerrard's Quest 1,2,& 3 (of the four part series)

Most of the comics are fairly easy to find on eBay from time to time.  I've never seen any of the complilation issues (TPB) on eBay.  Mile High Comics sometimes has copies of the TPBs.  That's where I had to get mine.
