Just read the news:

8.9 quake with triggered tsunami and aftershocks stretching to Tokyo... hope everyone is safe... the following tsunami sounds really serious.

Know if the tsunami hit as far south as Osaka? or mostly around the Tokyo area?

Very scary stuff - glad to hear you're alright Apocalypse.

My thoughts and prayers go out to those less fortunate.

Take it easy,

In Tokyo area, this tsunami hits around 2m.
In Osaka area, height is reduced to 0.5m.

If you live western US, Hawaii, and/or any region of Pacific Rim, tsunami hits within 48 hours. Be careful.

Hiromichi,

Glad to hear that you are o.k. I hope that the rest of the Japanese Librarities members like Masaaki are fine as well.

Glad to hear from you. Hope the others are well too. Korean news had a lot more detail than the US news, specially about phone and internet interuptions.

Real glad to hear that.

My heart really goes out to the people affected by this. It must have been such a shock to have it happen "out of the clear blue".

I am now praying that the nuclear plant doesn't melt down.

I don't know much about these things but can't they pull the rods and stop the reaction?

They could but there is no external power at the plant & their generators failed yesterday during of the aftershocks. Hopefully the reactors slowly meltdown so the radiation stays relatively contained. (It's ironic that a nuclear powerplant can't power itself.)

At least the reactor cores are still intact. As long as they can keep the sea water levels in the reactors high enough and with sufficient boric acid, the chances of a major meltdown will decrease.

I'm praying that none of the aftershocks are too severe - they don't need more to contend with when trying to stabilize the reactors or mount rescue operations.
