Yup. As Magic took the gamer world by storm, the WOTC marketing types were free to try all sorts of ploys to get the word out for each new release. Even Homelands, perhaps the worst set ever, had tremendous promo items to spread the word.
I have tried for ages to find a site that would try to categorize all the cool items from the early days. There were a bunch of wild TV commercials that saw limited release. There were posters and pamphlets, pins, and dice and banners, every kind of advertising you can think of. There were the oddball items like watches, clocks, neon lights, stationary

The Ice Age video wasn't exactly a commercial, it played on video screens at their convention booth that year.
There is an even odder Homelands video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwIPwi_FSVc). Just more Wizards employees doing some LARPing on camera :)
If you wanna see the real low point of WotC marketing, take a look at this series of promos that were on MTV (http://mtgarchive.net/wiki/MTV_Invitational).

I made my wiki (link in sig) exactly for documenting this kind of info. If you have things like that you want to see up on the site, like clean photos or a write-up with info, feel free to add em to the site (or send me a PM and I'll give you my email address to send em to if its easier).hammr7 wrote:I have tried for ages to find a site that would try to categorize all the cool items from the early days.
