How do you organize your promos & hard to find items?

Post by Faustgeist » Wed Dec 08, 2010 5:30 pm

Greetings all,

I am in the process of collecting DCI, Arena, full art, and just about every other promo magic card there is. To do this I am searching for up-to-date lists of what is available from WotC. US and foreign.

I have made inventory checklists from everything found here:

http://www.magiclibrarities.net/rarities.html

But am thinking there is lots of new stuff not listed. And don't get me wrong... this place is fantastic. I am just seeking the latest lists + compiled information. :)

Where do you get yours lists from? I'd like to be as complete as possible.

Much thanks and hope all is well,
~Robin

Thanks for the link.

I have looked at Star-City as well as CardShark's lists.

I can use these to be sure, but they are not as extensive as Magic Libraries Star City does not always display all foreign iterations of cards (such as recent WPN rewards).

I'm after an organized lists for each category. *grin*

Does a list of *all* promo cards even exist from Wizards themselves?

Thanks again! :)

I think this site maintains one of the most organized and complete lists available. There are other forums with threads that announce when new promos are released, but you have to follow them and keep up to date yourself.

http://magiccards.info/sitemap.html is also pretty good, but they do not keep track of card numbers for promos or the order they are released, so it's hard to know if they are missing any.

Interesting. Do you can name some examples of missing stuff?

Wizards has been "working" on adding a list of promos to Gatherer for atleast over a year now. http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Feedback.aspx (Hint: scroll down to the bottom for "Known Issues")

Using the lists on Librarities, I have created an excel spreadsheet to track the promos I have and what promos I am still missing.

Do whatever you are most comfortable with to collect the promos, but if you know of any that are not on the website, please provide pictures/scans and any other information you might have on them.

I too am trying to put together the WotC promos. Not an easy task.

First: WotC does not know (in the form of a definitive list) what they have used for promotional purposes.

Second: We, as collectors, have never settled on a logical organization of what WotC has put out. This board uses a kind of “type” organization—Lands here, large cards there, reward promos someplace else…. I have organized my 701 English language promos by organizational structure (Marketing and Organized Play) but you will find your own comfort zone, I’m sure.

Third: There is some latitude in what a promo card is. The new token/tip backs are certainly "promo" in nature but few care to collect them. Certainly not as exciting as a foil Serra Angel (and not included in my number above). The line between Promo and Advertising in not clean.

In any case, best of luck and if you want, PM me and I’ll send you my organizational structure for Promos.

Whoops,

The holidays took me off line for a while... thanks all for responding! Gary I would very much like to see your organizing system.. and thank you very much for the offer. :)

I pretty much follow the categories used on this site.

As for what is missing... I am cataloging my rampant shopping sprees and will be happy to put up my findings.

More soon & cheers!

I've seen Gary's binder for his promo cards. I was a little distracted (playing a game at the time) but it is really nice.

I haven't taken the time he has for having a presentable binder, but I also probably won't have as many opportunities to show mine off.

Maybe when I and my binder are reunited I will make a video of it to show it off that way.

Thanks for the kind words. It still needs a lot of work though.

I follow WOTCs example, and change my organization strategy every couple years.

ROFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But do they change their strategy or just their terminology? To change a strategy one must first have a strategy..........
