Test prints are for aesthetic reasons, to see how text looks in borders, to see how redesigned textboxes or frames look like. That's why the textless and test printing ones do away with text -- they're purely aesthetic. The french/german ones simply need to test for how text actually looks like in ...

Textless test prints

I was encouraged to drop by. :) Edgar happened after I'd handed over the job of Production Manager to Tom Wanerstrand. However, I might be able to provide some clues. Magic cards were originally created in two layers. The border and artwork were a high resolution TIFF file. The type and symbols were...

Proposal background info.

Does nobody Google any more?

There's a pretty good explanation of how the card was actually created at http://howell.seattle.wa.us/games/MtG/Proposal.html

Corroboration.

For what it's worth, my memory was that we'd done 10k CE's, and 5k ICE's. I don't see any reason to not take Peter's (indirect) information about having been shorted on the CEs, though, so sounds pretty likely to me.

Well, viewed, yes. I was more curious about whether or not it was interesting or useful. <shrug>

Re: "Fire-proof safes" not as safe as yo

Hmm. Now, I realize that a lack of follow-up posts doesn't mean nobody read the original post. It might be definitive. Or boring.

Did anybody read the original post? Did you find the information useful, or is this, in the end, just a way for me to boost my post count? ::)

Re: PSA rated cards

Well, I have good news and bad news. The bad news is, despite my care in calling first to find out PSA's policy regarding signatures, I still got three of the six I sent in returned ungraded. Whoever I talked to on the phone in December was simply wrong; they won't grade cards w/signatures unless th...

Re: Life Size Statues from WotC Store on eBay

The statues were auctioned off (I guess not on eBay) when the stores closed. The sculptor, Kim, is a good friend of mine. (I have some great pictures of her in the claws of the Shivan Dragon.)

Each one has to be cast, smoothed, and painted one at a time. They're not cheap to make.

Re: Most prized M:TG item: l0qii's prized ad

That's a hilarious Foglio ad. Once Again, It's Wacky Trivia Time From the Dark Ages of Magic! The goofy character answering the phone has a name. It is perfectly obvious to me that Phil based his artwork on a guy named T. Brian Wagner, who Phil knew, and was in Customer Service at the time. [And, as...

Re: Most prized M:TG item

Most prized items? Ahem. Proposal, duh. The original artwork for Twiddle. Old rule books, 'cause they have my name it it. Some extra Xerox masters for Arabian Nights playtest cards. Some of my WotC business cards that say "Lim-Dûl, Necromancer" A couple of Wizards of the Coast stock certificates. (...

Re: I just won a beta MOX JET for $75 US!

mintcollector said "Some sellers tend to steal artwork from other auctions (which I wish they would make illegal)"

Actually, they already did. If I scan one of my boosters and post it, that image is mine, protected by U.S. Copyright Law. No, I do not need to attach any little (c) to it or anything.

Section 2(b) of Title 17 of the U.S. Copyright Act
says that any person who infringes a copyright “willfully . . . by the reproduction or distribution, including by electronic means, of 1 or more copies, of 1 or more copyrighted worksâ€￾ is subject to the criminal penalties set forth in Title 18. For stealing eBay images, it'd be a misdemeanor.

The infringer does need to act “willfully and for purposes of commercial advantage or private financial gain.â€￾ No problem there.

Now: am I actually going to take the time to sue some jerkweed who steals my images? Nope. I am smart enough to not only know how to do it, but how to not have my stuff stolen in the first place. <grin> That's why, after the first couple of auctions, I redid all my auction artwork to include my name in semitransparent lettering across the object for sale.

It is illegal. It's just not very enforceable, until/unless people doing auctions get a bit smarter about protecting their images.

Re: PSA rated cards

I called PSA to find out their policy on autographs. What I was told was that if it is clearly a deliberate signature (and not a scribble or other accident), then it is ignored for grading purposes. If an individual wants a PSA 9 Mint card without pen tracks, they can choose not to buy a signed PSA9...

Re: The sniping topic

<scratch head> This is very weird to me. OK, there's an auction. You want an item? Enter in the actual, honest, truly true maximum amount you'd be willing to pay for it. Now go to bed; you're done. You're now "snipe proof." If somebody snipes it, and you're all mad, that says that you didn't a...
