Glyph Counter: Use for Freezes creature; 1 counter removed each upkeep. Placed on Creatures. Introduced with Glyph of Delusion in Legends as unnamed counters which were later given errata to Glyph counters.

Hatchling Counter: Use to Resource for sacrificial ability; Transform tracking. Placed on Artifacts, Creatures. Introduced with Triassic Egg in Legends where they originally appeared as unnamed counters before being given errata into Hatchling counters.

Intervention Counter: Use Upkeep tracker for Alternate-draw condition. Placed on Enchantment. Introduced with Divine Intervention in Legends. They were originally unnamed counters but were later errated into Intervention counters.

Matrix Counter: Use to Regenerate creatures. Placed on Creatures. Introduced with Life Matrix in Legends as an unnamed counter type which was later given errata to be Matrix counters.

Mire Counter: Use to Turns land into Swamp. Placed on non-Swamp Land. Introduced with Cyclopean Tomb in Alpha where they were referred to as tokens before being given errata and being re-printed as Mire counters.

Pupa Counter: Use to Freeze creature and power-up on removal. Placed on Aura. Introduced with Cocoon in Legends originally as Change counters before they were given errata to be Pupa counters.

Scream Counter: Use to Suspend-like effect; +1/+0 to enchanted creature. Placed on Exiled Sorcery; Aura. Introduced with All Hallow's Eve in Legends as an unnamed counter before it was given errata to be Scream counters.

Venarian Counter: Use to Freezes creature until next upkeep. Placed on Creatures. Introduced with Venarian Gold in Legends as an unnamed type counter which were given errata to be Sleep counters.

Vitality Counter: Use to Convert previously taken damage into life. Placed on Artifacts. Introduced with Living Artifact in Alpha, Revised. They were originally introduced as an unnamed counter type which was later given errata to be Vitality counters.


Counters and Tokens were created in 1995, before Fourth Edition (May 1995) and Ice Age (June 1995) were released. They were aimed to be used with those Editions and Expansions:
