REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFIERS 2022 Regional Championship Qualifiers are largely held at the WPN store level and are organized by regional tournament organizers. These teams set local qualification guidelines, work with the WPN to schedule qualifiers, and provide program information on their websites. In other words, rather than previous one-plan-fits-all approaches to qualifiers, we're giving some flexibility to regional organizers who know their players and how best to hold events in their regions. To start your journey, visit one of these organizers' websites: As a quick interlude, we will be distributing promos at the local and regional levels while supplies last. The exact breakdown differs from region-to-region. Check with your participating organizers for more info. Regional Championship Qualifier Promo Card(s)*: Lava Spike: Non-foil for participating in local qualifiers. Traditional foil for participating in select large, open qualifying events and side events at Regional Finals. Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx: Non-foil for top finishers at local qualifying events. Traditional foil for players who earn invitations to the Regional Championship. October 1–December 18 Regional Championship Qualifier promo cards*: Thraben Inspector: Non-foil versions are available by participating in local qualifiers. Traditional foil versions are available as well through participating in larger open qualifying events as well as side events at Regional Championships. This version of Thraben Inspector features new artwork from Yuko Shimizu. Selfless Spirit: Non-foil versions are available to top finishers at qualifying events, while traditional foil copies will be awarded to players who earn invitations to the Regional Championship. This new printing of Selfless Spirit features new artwork from Justine Jones. Regional Championships for Pro Tour 2: Gideon, Ally of Zendikar: Non-foil versions will be provided to Regional Championship participants, while top finishers from each region will receive a traditional foil version of the card as well. This printing of Gideon, Ally of Zendikar features new artwork from Alexis Ziritt. *While supplies last. Prize promo availability may differ by region. May change at Wizards's discretion. Check with your regional tournament organizer and hosting game store for more information. REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS Have you already conquered your local scene? Set your sights on some pretty choice bragging rights with the Regional Championships. Imagine getting to call yourself the European or South American Champion. Imagine representing your region at the Pro Tour and doing so knowing they're back home cheering you on. Imagine winning your championship and collecting an invite directly to the World Championship. That's right—win your Regional Championship (or finish second in the USA, EMEA, or Japanese Championship)—and you'll earn a qualification straight to the World Championship on top of your Pro Tour invite. The Regional Championships are big, big events, and we wanted accolades that matched the achievement of winning. Each Regional Championship is a major Magic event—a focal point for play in your region. Besides the Championship itself, which will award invitations to Pro Tours in addition to the prize pool, these events will have a variety of play options for fans. Regional Championships are run by the same groups who organize the local qualifiers, so bookmark those websites above and get ready to challenge the best in your region. Note that you can only participate in one region's Regional Championship for each round of Championships. Regional Championship Promo Card: Teferi, Hero of Dominaria: Non-foil for Regional Championship participants, and traditional foil for top finishers. PRO TOUR The Pro Tour is back! Three times a year, qualifiers from the Regional Championships will gather to compete for their share of $500,000 in prizes, invites to the World Championship, and the right to claim their place among the best in the world. Perform well at a Regional Championship and earn your spot among the best in the world. Pro Tours will be hosted by Wizards of the Coast at locations we'll announce as we get closer to the dates. While the uncertainty surrounding COVID does make our crystal ball a bit hazy, we're currently targeting our first Pro Tour for early 2023. Our priority is always for the safety of our players and staff, and we'll be adjusting plans in accordance with the latest health and safety guidelines. Our goal is to gather again to celebrate the best of the best on the Pro Tour, and we'll be sharing more information as plans solidify. Most Pro Tour qualifications will be earned by performing well at Regional Championships or from finishing with 10 wins in a previous Pro Tour, but we're also introducing a points system called Adjusted Match Points (AMP) that will allow players to earn invites through multiple strong, but not otherwise qualifying, performances at Pro Tour tournaments. WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP The culmination of everything a competitive Magic player may dream of, the World Championship will serve as the capstone event of each season. Around 128 players will compete for their share of $1,000,000. For the 2022–2023 season, this event will be held later in 2023 in the United States. The one and only winner will be crowned Magic: The Gathering World Champion. Our goal is for the World Championship, the Pro Tours, the Regional Championships, and local qualifiers to be held in person and played on tabletop, though local restrictions, the fluctuating state of international travel, and the health and safety of players and staff may alter plans. We'll endeavor to share any changes or updates at the earliest date possible. 2022 ART (8/9) Lava Spike full art by Igor Kieryluk. Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx full art by Alayna Danner. RCQ PROMOS And a new Regional Championship Qualifiers round means new promos! The qualifying round for the Regional Championships that feed into Pro Tour 4 will start April 22, 2023, and will run until August 20, 2023. During that time, participating WPN stores and approved organizers will host Regional Championship Qualifiers that award invitations to the Regional Championship(s) within their respective region. Those Regional Championship events will take place in the late September to late November 2023 timeframe and award invitations to Pro Tour 4 in the first part of 2024. Additionally, based on feedback from the last season, we're slightly extending the qualifying round lengths so that stores have a little more time to plan when their event takes place. You'll also notice a difference with this round. In the same fashion as the announced Pro Tour and Secret Lair Showdown cards that are making their debut at MagicCon: Philadelphia, RCQ and Regional Championship promos are making their debut in the Secret Lair Prize Card category! Supported by our friends on the Secret Lair team, these special promo cards will give the competitive Magic community an opportunity to obtain prize cards featuring a wider range of art styles. While supplies last, this round of RCQs will, like with the other rounds, award promos for participation as well as for top-finishing players. The promos will once again be getting a refresh for this round and will feature brand-new, never-before-seen art and our popular borderless treatment. The April 22–August 20, 2023, Regional Championship Qualifier promo cards are as follows*: Unholy Heat: Non-foil versions are available by participating in local qualifiers. Traditional foil versions are available as well through participating in larger open qualifying events as well as side events at Regional Championships. This version of Unholy Heat features new artwork from Cabrol. Eldritch Evolution: Non-foil versions of this card can be earned by being a top finisher in local qualifiers. Traditional foil versions will be available to players who earn invitations to their respective Regional Championship at qualifier events. The next evolution in this card's art comes courtesy of DZO. (*Promotional cards received where available and while supplies last. Prize promo availability may differ by region and may change at Wizards of the Coast's discretion. Check with your regional tournament organizer and hosting game store for more information.) REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP FOR PRO TOUR 4 Regional Championships for Pro Tour 4 will be scheduled between September 3 and November 26, 2023. Top finishers from this round of Regional Championships will earn invitations to the first Pro Tour of 2024 ("Pro Tour 4"), with exact invites varying per region. The winners of each Regional Championship (as well as the finalists in the USA, EMEA, and Japan) will also qualify for Magic World Championship 30 in 2024. Regional Championship promo card: Ugin, the Spirit Dragon: Get in the spirit of the Regional Championships with this massive game-winner. Non-foil versions will be provided to Regional Championship participants, while top finishers from each region will receive a traditional foil version of the card as well. This printing of Ugin, the Spirit Dragon features new artwork from kelogsloops. QUALIFY FOR THE PRO TOUR NOW! Qualifiers that ultimately feed into Pro Tour 4 in the first part of 2024 may be coming up in a couple of months, but if you want to qualify for a Pro Tour later this year, then good news! There's still time. A little under two months, in fact! Qualifiers that ultimately feed into "Pro Tour 3," which takes place at MagicCon Barcelona July 28–30, are going on right now at participation WPN stores worldwide. But to get to the Pro Tour, you need to show that you've got what it takes at a Regional Championship. Those take place from May 20–July 2. Full details on all promos for the qualifying round that feeds "Pro Tour 3" at MagicCon Barcelona later this year can be found in this article, but for the latest info on your journey to the Pro Tour and the Magic: The Gathering World championship, check with the organizer running these events in your region: USA – Dreamhack Canada – Face to Face Games Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) – Legacy Australia/New Zealand – Good Games China – Kadou Japan/Korea – Big Magic Southeast Asia – Oracle Events Chinese Taipei – Game Square Brazil – City Class Games Mexico/Central America/Caribbean – Yellow Rabbit South America – Magicsur 2023 ART (3/7) Unholy Heat full art by Cabrol. Regional Championships for 2023–24: Round 1 Takes Place September 29–December 17. The first round of Regional Championships for the 2023–24 season kicks off starting on September 29, with events in Canada and Europe for Regional Championship Qualifier winners to take their shot at qualifying for the first Pro Tour of 2024 and perhaps even Magic's 30th World Championship in late 2024. The third round of the 2023-24 season's qualifiers will begin on January 6, 2024, and will run until March 24, 2024. WPN stores and larger organizers that participate will be running Regional Championship Qualifiers (RCQs) that qualify players for the Regional Championship covering their respective region. Those Regional Championships will take place in Q2 of 2024 and will qualify for the third Pro Tour of 2024 in late June. Regional Championships for Pro Tour 3 in 2024 The Regional Championships for Pro Tour 3 in 2024 will be scheduled between May 4 and June 2 in 2024. The format for these Regional Championships is Standard Constructed. Top finishers from these events earn invitations to the third Pro Tour of 2024 ("Pro Tour 3"), with invites varying by region. The winners of each Regional Championship—as well as the finalists from the USA, EMEA, and Japan—will also qualify for 2024's Magic: The Gathering World Championship, happening later in 2024. 2024 ART(2/3) MISSING: Explore full art by BLUMOO. Upcoming Regional Championship Qualifiers The first round of 2024–25's Regional Championship Qualifiers (RCQs) will begin on April 20, 2024, and will run until July 21. WPN stores that participate, as well as larger organizers that run larger destination events, will award qualifications to the corresponding Regional Championships that take place in the fall of this year (more details on those championship events later in the article). RCQs run at the WPN level for this round will either be Limited or Pioneer Constructed. Note that larger events designated as "destination" qualifiers—open tournaments typically run in larger venues such as hotel ballrooms or convention centers —may be run as other Constructed formats as well. Please check with your local organizer for all the specific info on qualifiers closest to you. The new RCQ round also means new Secret Lair promo cards for participants, as well as prize cards for top finishers: Springleaf Drum and Goblin Guide. April 20 to July 21 Regional Championship Qualifier promo cards*: March to the beat of your own Springleaf Drum! This new variation on Springleaf Drum features art from John F. Malta and is available to participants in this upcoming round of RCQs! Non-foil copies will be available through RCQs hosted by WPN stores. Traditional foil copies may be available at other larger events, or as side event participation cards at the Regional Championship round. Please check with your regional organizer for all details on how to get these. Goblins continue their tradition of not being very good guides, but why would that ever stop them from trying? This new variation of Goblin Guide features artwork from Luke Pearson. Non-foil copies will be available to top finishers in RCQ events, while those who earn qualifications to this round's Regional Championship will score a traditional foil copy. (*Promotional cards received where available and while supplies last. Prize promo availability may differ by region and may change at Wizards of the Coast's discretion. Check with your regional tournament organizer and hosting game store for more information.) Regional Championships for Pro Tour 1 in 2025 The Regional Championships for Pro Tour 1 in 2025 will be scheduled between September 28 and December 1. Top finishers from these regional tournaments earn invitations to the first Pro Tour of 2025 (Pro Tour 1), with invites varying by region. The winners of each Regional Championship—as well as the finalists from the USA, Canada*, EMEA, and Japan—will also qualify for 2025's Magic: The Gathering World Championship, happening later in 2025. *Note that Canada has shifted to one Regional Championship per round for the 2024–25 season. The invitation for the region's second Regional Championship to the World Championship has been added as an invitation to the finalist of their Regional Championship. Regional Championship Secret Lair prize card: Seasoned Pyromancer: Sometimes you just have to ask the burning questions. For example, "What if a pyromancer's elementals were kitty cats?" Artist Jack Teagle delivered on what that might look like with a fantastic variation of Seasoned Pyromancer. Each Regional Championship participant gets a non-foil copy of this Secret Lair prize card, while top finishers in the Regional Championship also get a traditional foil copy! For exact award breakdowns for traditional foils, please check with your regional organizer for details regarding their Regional Championship event. Qualify for the Pro Tour Today! While the 2024–25 season kicks off in the coming weeks, it's still not too late to qualify for a Pro Tour happening in 2024! Regional Championships for Pro Tour Thunder Junction are taking place this and next month, and they typically offer last-chance qualifiers that may get you an entry into one of those championship tournaments. Additionally, RCQs for Pro Tour Modern Horizons 3 are going on right now at WPN stores near you! Additionally, starting with the RCQs for the 2024–25 season, organizers have changed in the USA, EMEA, and Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean. Please refer to the links below for information on the upcoming RCQs that begin in April. Keep in mind that the organizers from 2023–24's RCQs will be managing the Regional Championships taking place through June of this year, so refer to those organizers for all details related to those upcoming events. 2024 ART (2/3) MISSING: Springleaf Drum full art by John F.
