HarperPrism, an imprint of Harper Collins, published ten Magic: The Gathering novels, starting with the first named Arena in September 1994. The first five of them had a coupon on the last page which could be sent to HarperPrism to get a free card. While in the first four novels the rewarded card (or in the case of Arena, two cards) was fixed, HarperPrism used the fifth novel to distribute the remaining cards per random while supply lasted. The cards were available in English (USA) by HarperPrism, Englisk (UK) by Boxtree Ltd, French by Le Fleuve Noir, Italian by Sperling & Kupfer, Portuguese by Ediouro and Devir Livraria, and Spanish by Martínez Roca, with the Spanish set erroneously printed with white borders. The books were also available in German but were not distributed by HarperPrism and therefore have no cards associated with them. The Italian book cycle was discontinued after the second novel due to poor sales. In Brazil, Arena and Mana Crypt cards were inserted inside the first two books, so it was not necessary to send back any coupon, the same applies for Italian and Spanish cards. The third book " The Cursed Land" was translated in Portuguese but was never released, the 3 last cards were also printed (It took much more time to print the card than to print the book) and ready for being inserted inside the books, but the project for the third book was aborted and it was never printed. The cards were never released to the public and should have been kept if the book would ever be released. Apparently some of these cards are in the wild. No further info is available at the moment. Magic: The Gathering novels were translated in different foreign languages, a lot of them having a different illustration on the cover. No Promo cards were available. Arena was also translated and published in Czech (Classic), Dutch (Uitgeverij Het Spectrum), German (Wilhelm Heyne Verlag), Hungarian (Neotek), Japanese (Aspect Novels), Polish (ISA). Shattered Chains was also translated and published in Czech (Classic), German (Wilhelm Heyne Verlag), Hungarian (Szukits), Polish (ISA). Whispering Woods was also translated and published in Czech (Classic), Dutch (Uitgeverij Het Spectrum), German (Wilhelm Heyne Verlag), Hungarian (Szukits), Japanese (Aspect Novels), Polish (ISA). Final Sacrifice was also translated and published in Czech (Classic), German (Wilhelm Heyne Verlag), Hungarian (Szukits), Polish (ISA). The Cursed Land was also translated and published in German (Wilhelm Heyne Verlag), Polish (ISA).
